As we continue to grow, we're looking for a strategic, detail-oriented Procurement Buyer to join our team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring we have the right ingredients, packaging, and supplies to support our production while maintaining quality, controlling costs, and building strong supplier relationships.

Position Summary

The Procurement Buyer is responsible for sourcing and purchasing raw materials, ingredients, packaging, and indirect supplies required to support manufacturing operations. This role manages supplier relationships, monitors inventory levels, and works closely with Production, Operations, Quality Assurance, Warehouse, Finance, and Procurement partners in 3 additional JTM locations to ensure uninterrupted production while achieving cost savings and maintaining the highest quality standards.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Source and purchase ingredients, packaging materials, and indirect supplies to support daily manufacturing operations.
• Negotiate delivery schedules with suppliers.
• Issue and manage purchase orders while ensuring timely deliveries.
• Monitor inventory levels and forecast purchasing needs based on production schedules and demand planning.
• Identify opportunities for cost savings through supplier negotiations, product standardization, and strategic sourcing initiatives.
• Develop and maintain strong relationships with vendors while evaluating supplier performance for quality, pricing, service, and delivery.
• Collaborate with Production Planning to ensure materials are available to support production schedules.
• Work with Quality Assurance to ensure all purchased materials meet food safety and quality standards.
• Resolve invoice discrepancies, pricing issues, receiving variances, and supplier concerns in partnership with the Finance department.
• Maintain accurate purchasing records within the ERP system.
• Monitor commodity markets and industry trends that may impact pricing or supply availability.
• Assist in developing contingency sourcing strategies to minimize supply chain disruptions.
• Participate in new product launches by sourcing ingredients, packaging, and new vendors.
• Support inventory accuracy by working closely with Warehouse and Inventory Control teams.
• Ensure compliance with company purchasing policies, food safety regulations, and supplier approval requirements.
• Analyze purchasing data and prepare reports on spend, supplier performance, and cost-saving initiatives.
• Partner with JTM Procurement partners across the JTM portfolio of locations and product offerings.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Procurement, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of 3 years of procurement or purchasing experience, preferably in food manufacturing, consumer packaged goods (CPG), or manufacturing.
• Experience purchasing food ingredients, packaging materials, or manufacturing supplies is highly preferred.
• Experience with ERP systems (Sage, SAP, NetSuite, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar) preferred.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, and data analysis.
• Excellent negotiation and vendor management skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.

Work Environment

• Primarily office-based within a food manufacturing facility.
• Frequent interaction with Production, Warehouse, Quality Assurance, and Operations teams.
• Occasional visits to warehouse and production areas requiring appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• May require occasional travel to supplier facilities, industry conferences, or trade shows.
• Fast-paced environment requiring flexibility and strong time management skills.

Physical Requirements

• Primarily sedentary work involving extended periods of sitting.
• Frequent computer and telephone use.
• Occasionally lift and carry materials or product samples up to 20 pounds.
• Ability to walk throughout the manufacturing facility as needed.
• Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, and electronically.
• Ability to occasionally stand, bend, or reach while inspecting products or inventory.
