We are looking for candidates with strong fundamentals and the ability to learn quickly in a dynamic mission space.As a member of our team, you will…Develop, evaluate, and improve technical approaches to challenging, non-routine problems involving artificial intelligence / machine learning (AI/ML), data science, and related technologiesDesign and contribute to prototype software that gathers, processes, and analyzes data from sources ranging from the open web to authoritative ontologies and knowledge graphsResearch, explore, and develop innovative techniques and technologies in the field of artificial intelligenceAssess the strengths, limitations, and tradeoffs of technical approaches and help teammates and sponsors understand how to improve, extend, or adapt them to new problemsCommunicate ideas, methods, and results clearly through papers, presentations, and discussions with technical staff, leadership, and government decision makersQualificationsYou'll meet our minimum requirements if you have…BS or BA in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related fieldExperience applying AI/ML, natural language processing (NLP), statistical analysis, or related technical fields to real-world problemsExperience developing reliable software (Python preferred), with the ability to contribute to shared code bases using sound software-engineering practicesComfort working from loosely defined or high-level requirementsStrong problem solving, analytical, and organizational skillsAbility to manage priorities across multiple dynamic projects supporting evolving national security needsDemonstrated initiative and ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a teamStrong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical ideas to audiences with varied technical backgroundsHave the ability to obtain a TS/SCI level security clearance. Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as geographic location, work experience, market conditions, education/training and skill level with consideration for internal parity. For salaried employees scheduled to work less than 40 hours per week, annual salary will be prorated based on the number of hours worked. APL may offer bonuses or other forms of compensation per internal policy and/or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be provided in the form of a sign-on bonus, relocation benefits, locality allowance or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
