Member of Technical Staff, Applied Science - People Leader, AGI Autonomy

Description The Amazon AGI Autonomy Lab focuses on developing foundational capabilities for useful AI agents. In this People Manager role, you will build and lead a team that advances Amazon Nova, our state‑of‑the‑art foundation model, bridging research with real‑world impact to solve reasoning, planning, and world modeling in both virtual and physical environments. Key Job Responsibilities You will contribute directly to AI agent development in a research management role by leading a research team, aligning their goals with the lab’s broader objectives, mentoring team members, and hiring top talent. Basic Qualifications 2+ years leading AI/ML research teams, managing 5+ direct reports Experience unifying cross‑functional teams and aligning research roadmaps with strategic goals Advanced proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow) with practical experience training large models at scale Hands‑on experience scaling foundational models (e.g., LLMs) and applying post‑training techniques Expertise in machine vision, autonomous systems, natural language processing, or a related AI/ML field Proven success leading applied research projects that deliver measurable improvements in agent intelligence or model capabilities Preferred Qualifications Ability to develop and articulate a clear scientific strategy that aligns with organizational goals Experience in mentoring and developing scientific talent, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning Ability to communicate results and insights to both technical and non‑technical audiences, including through presentations and written reports Capacity to work autonomously while effectively leading a team to achieve research objectives Strong interpersonal skills to motivate and guide team members Amazon is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of protected veteran status, disability, or other legally protected status. Compensation for this position ranges from $245,000 per year in our lowest geographic market to $350,000 per year in our highest geographic market.
