Operations Manager of Public Safety

Boston Medical Center (BMC) is the largest safety‑net hospital in New England offering trauma and emergency services. BMC is a teaching affiliate of Boston University School of Medicine and a key partner in Boston HealthNet. Position Summary Reports to the Director of Public Safety as the manager of the BMC Public Safety Department. Oversees 24/7 operations, including the Security Command and Control Center, staff scheduling, policy development, training, and response to emergencies. Essential Responsibilities Manage continuous Public Safety Operations and coordinate with Facilities Management. Assign work duties, develop job descriptions, and training plans. Develop and update standard operating procedures, quality‑assurance, and risk‑management programs. Recruit, hire, orient, and evaluate staff; conduct performance reviews and take disciplinary action as needed. Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements (CDC Select Agent program, HIPAA, CALEA, CORI, and police‑licensing mandates). Participate in budget preparation, payroll submission, and variance reporting. Represent BMC in meetings with regulatory and law‑enforcement agencies. Develop and implement proactive training and continuous‑improvement initiatives. Education & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Management or Criminal‑Justice degree preferred. Minimum five years of experience in corporate, medical‑center, or law‑enforcement security, with at least three years of supervisory responsibility. Appointable as a special police officer in Massachusetts and eligible to obtain/maintain the lawful possession of a firearm. Proficiency with Word, Excel, and WordPerfect; knowledge of facilities‑management and security‑alarm systems. Compensation Salary range: $78,000 – $113,000 (based on qualifications).
