Overview Of Acuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit The Acuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN) provides clinical care and coordination skills to every patient served in the unit using the Eskenazi Health model of care, Synergy. The Acuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit Registered Nurse (RN) coordinates with the patient, family/loved ones and other healthcare disciplines to ensure care is appropriate to patient care needs. Acuity Adaptable Care at Eskenazi Health represents a broad spectrum of inpatient services across 3 floors of our acute care hospital. Patients admitted to an acuity adaptable unit at Eskenazi Health receive services from a wide variety of clinical specialties including: orthopedics, oncology, cardiology, palliative care, neurology, trauma, medicine, renal, urology, pulmonology, infectious disease, and more. Acuity Adaptable offers all private rooms as well as telemetry monitoring capability.

What Schedule Can I Expect? The Acuity Adaptable Progressive Care Unit team does take advantage of 6-week self-scheduling where team members request the days they work. We do offer a full time schedule which consists of three 12-hour shifts on either day shift (6:30AM - 7PM) or night shift (7PM - 6:30AM). There are no on-call requirements and team members rotate holidays.

What Are Nurse To Patient Ratios? The department follows a primary care nursing model and typically utilizes a 1:4 nurse-to-patient ratio. Patients vary in acuity and complexity, ranging from Med/Surg to high acuity Progressive Care status. All nurses are supported by 24/7 onsite Manager and Educator support.

What Does Training Look Like? Eskenazi Health has a dedicated clinical education team that works with new hires the first week on board. The orientation period is typically 12-weeks and during this timeframe new members will be paired with a preceptor. Continued support is provided by managers, clinical educators, and seasoned staff. One aspect that sets Eskenazi Health apart is there is a clinical educator and manager on every shift, even on weekends!

Qualifications Associates Degree in Nursing from accredited college/university required, Bachelor's degree in Nursing from an accredited college/university preferred. Current Indiana license as a Registered Nurse or eligibility for license. BLS certification required (Can be obtained during onboarding training). ACLS Certification required (Can be obtained during onboarding training). NIH Certification required (Can be obtained during onboarding training).

Essential Responsibilities Effectively utilize the nursing process to perform all nursing functions in an efficient timely manner, in accordance with policies, procedures, Indiana State Practice Act, and Eskenazi Health Model of Care-the Synergy Model. Utilizes and documents the nursing process thru appropriate assessment, planning, implementation, & evaluation of patient care as evidenced by client/staff observation; care acknowledges physiological, psychological, spiritual, diversity & cultural needs. Engages patients & loved ones with appropriate health information and education in a timely manner. Demonstrates ability to handle emergency situations in a prompt, calm, and professional manner. Participates in own professional development by maintaining required competencies, identifying learning needs, and seeking appropriate assistance and educational offerings. Demonstrates understanding of and participates in shared governance at the unit and hospital and organization-wide level. Demonstrate understanding of customer service concepts and apply to practice. Provides personal and individualized patient care to ensure comfort and wellbeing. Utilizes effective and efficient interdisciplinary communication. Maintains safe patient care and & advocates for patient safety. Participates in clinical and operational performance improvement using evidence-based practice. Collaborates with leadership regarding staffing to help ensure adequate & appropriate staffing reflective of census & patient care needs. Maintains a positive & calming presence to ensure a positive working relationship and environment for all.
