Operations Team Leader

ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Supervise day-to-day operations, including scheduling and tracking the work activities for the department. Work closely with other departments to share resources and meet work demands. Monitor operations of wastewater facilities, including testing, analysis, and regulatory reporting. Make recommendations on improvements or upgrades needed to improve operational performance and cost efficiency. Provide technical advice and guidance to System Operators to address issues and develop skills. Identify, evaluate, and recommend cost‑effective improvements in system operations, including vendor or contractor services. Prepare monitoring reports for regulatory review and maintain facility records, blueprints, equipment manuals, and operating data. Oversee the highest level of technical assistance during construction of new installations, major repairs, and capital construction projects. Interface with vendors, contractors, consulting engineers, and plant staff regarding water and wastewater systems. Assist in cost development of capital projects and in the development of operating budgets. Handle elevated responses to customer questions and/or concerns. Coordinate the removal of sludge and the delivery of chemicals and supplies needed for facility operations. Ensure subordinate staff use business software (Service Link, SAP, Timetrack) correctly. Serve in an on‑call rotation with availability 24 hours per day, including weekends, in conjunction with other department personnel. Maintain adherence to all Aqua safety and health policies and procedures. Lead or assist with other tasks or projects as assigned. QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma (or equivalent) required; Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Chemistry, or a related field is strongly preferred. At least 3 years of professional experience in wastewater and/or water treatment system operations and/or capital improvement projects. Proven project management experience, especially managing multiple projects simultaneously. Supervisory or leadership experience is preferred. Licenses may include PA Department of Environmental Protection ClassE Wastewater Collection Systems License or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire; valid U.S. driver’s license. NASSCO certification preferred. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Working knowledge of wastewater collection system practices and procedures. Working knowledge of PA ONE‑call system. Working knowledge of excavation and work‑zone safety. Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other maintenance and GIS‑based software applications. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Strong customer service skills. Ability to work well under pressure and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Team‑player demeanor with ability to work effectively in a team‑fostered environment. WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL DEMANDS: May be subject to extreme temperatures, noise, wet or humid conditions, mechanical, electrical, gas exposure hazards, fumes, dust, mists, gases, and poor ventilation. The physical demands include lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds, manual dexterity, hearing, speaking, seeing, and traveling to work sites of Essential Utilities or other constituents.
