Packer Technician in Gluing - Day Shift (3 Day/12 Hour)

Chattanooga, TN, US PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY The Packer Technician supports the Operator or Apprentice in safely setting up, maintaining, and operating the machine(s) to acquire quality product at the desired target speed of each run. They assist with defining problem statements when issues arise, feed product into the gluer, pack finished product into cases, and oversee efficient operation of the auto‑packer machine. SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY Responsible for setting up, operating, and troubleshooting the auto‑packer; assists the gluer operator in portions of the gluer set‑up. Set up, maintain, and operate pack assist, case sealer, labeler, and automation (equipment varies by location). Set up, replenish tape, and troubleshoot the case sealer. Assist in quality sampling of product. Interface with an electronic control panel and keep pace with a high‑speed piece of equipment. Effectively utilize any machine downtime (excluding approved breaks) by assisting with set‑up or performing tasks associated with maintaining a clean work environment or as otherwise instructed by a supervisor. Communicate well with other team members. Wear appropriate PPE for the task and area. Welcome updates and improvements to processes and follow new procedures and innovations that add to efficiency and safety. Perform work in a manner that keeps downtime to a minimum. Maintain a clean work environment in accordance with Food Safety and 5S systems. Follow all safety‑related policies, rules, regulations, technical instructions, and guidelines; use situational awareness and identify unsafe behaviors and conditions. May be asked to help with duties in other areas or departments based on production needs. Understand and complete documentation and data entry requirements including scheduling, job tickets, quality samples, and shop floor data collection. AUTHORITY Must have the ability to lead others assigned to execute the demands of the operation efficiently and to respond to oral instructions from the supervisor and other written instructions. QUALIFICATIONS EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE High school diploma or G.E.D.; or one to three months of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills, ability to utilize software, mechanical ability, and mechanical skills. LANGUAGE SKILLS Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc., and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
