Outside MachinistBAE Systems is hiring Outside Machinists to support the Norfolk Ship Repair facility. The Outside Machinist Mechanic performs a variety of skilled mechanical duties involving deck machinery, engine room work, general dock, rudders, shafting, propeller work, and testing. The Mechanic will have general knowledge of equipment operation for assembly, installation and testing; records work performed and follows specified safety policies and procedures.This list is representative of the key areas of responsibility and functional knowledge required of mechanic in the Outside Machinist shop. A mechanic must demonstrate a developing knowledge of the skills, functional knowledge and abilities required to perform tasks in these and related areas of responsibility. Developing knowledge means that the mechanic understands how to perform tasks in these categories (including, but not limited to, the specific tasks identified below) and is able to complete them with minimal assistance. This also means that the mechanic has the necessary level of knowledge of the equipment, protective gear, and machinery required to complete these tasks. Practical Theory Requirements A mechanic must demonstrate knowledge of job planning and executing, proper tool selection, assisting helpers and handypersons with minimal supervision. Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $29.00 to $35.00 per hour (or $60,320.00 to $72,800.00 annually). Actual compensation may vary based on factors such as shift differentials or the terms outlined in an applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), which will ultimately determine your wages. Licenses/Certifications: Trained in all annual NAVSEA Standard Items (preferred) General Knowledge of Ship Systems preferred Distilling Plants Steam Plant Diesel Plant Hydraulics systems Understanding of naval vessel compartments, number systems and related vessel terminology for the CG, DDG, and LHD ships preferred.
