Reading And Literacy Specialist
The Reading and Literacy Specialist provides leadership, coordination, collaboration, innovation and intervention support in reading curriculum and instruction. This position also provides assistance to teachers so that appropriate research-based strategies are employed in order for students to achieve literacy.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's degree in literacy or related field
- Minimum of five years teaching experience
- Possess or qualify for NH Teacher certification
- Experience coordinating and providing coaching to educators and leading professional development activities
- Ability to develop responsible and respectful professional relationships with staff
- Multi-tasker who is excellent at time management, motivated, and possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in Education or related field
Reports To: Principal
Supervisory Responsibility: This position has no supervisory responsibilities
Knowledge:
- Understand the foundations of the reading and writing process and instruction
- Exhibit theoretical and research-based knowledge of language acquisition and child development through middle childhood
- Research, teach, and model best practices used to address the needs of those students who struggle with reading and writing
Skills:
- Demonstrate instructional leadership and professionalism
- Model best practices and teach lessons when appropriate
- Identify strengths and weaknesses in students by collecting, analyzing and using school wide data to improve literacy
- Utilize a variety of resources to enhance the teaching and learning process
- Analyze data to target instruction, enhance student learning, and inform teacher practice
- Knowledge of relevant technology and use of 21st Century skills in teaching and learning
Duties:
- Assist teachers in recognizing and responding to the multiple needs of the diverse learners in our district
- Assist teachers in utilizing a variety of on-going, instructionally based assessment approaches to inform and differentiate instruction
- Assist with implementing a balanced approach of direct teaching using authentic, literature-based reading and writing opportunities
- Collaborate with administrators and teachers to develop and use appropriate literacy strategies, implementation plans, and assessment tools
- Assist with district and school-wide literacy initiatives
- Provide educational opportunities, information and support for families and the community
- Assist in providing ongoing professional development to staff
- Consult and coach staff in the development, implementation, and assessment of intervention strategies and plans designed to help individual students and/or groups of students
- Assist teachers, specialists and para educators in using assessments to plan and implement instruction for all students
- Maintain confidentiality of information concerning colleagues, students, and parents
- Maintain a respectful environment and open communication with students
- Continually seek to motivate students for the learning task at hand through choice and scaffolded instruction
- Perform all other related work delegated or required to accomplish the objectives of the total school program
- Meet professional teacher education requirements of school, district and state
Working Environment:
