Job Details Job Location: Lafayette YMCA - Lafayette, CO 80026Position Type: Part TimeEducation Level: 4 Year DegreeSalary Range: $28.00 - $32.00 HourlyJob Category: Nonprofit - Social ServicesUnder the direction of the Director of Strength and Conditioning, the Strength and Conditioning Coach will work with clients and sets goals and develops fitness training plans; provides safe, encouraging, and effective one-on-one personal/semi-private training plans and modifies as needed. Maintains a clean, orderly environment. Responds to any emergency that may occur in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Provides a high-level of customer service; creates a safe environment in which all individuals feel welcomed and respected; build relationships with and among members and program participants, answers questions, responds to email or phone inquiries within 24-hours, schedules sessions. Actively recruits potential new clients. Maintains professionalism; follows dress code, comes to the Y on time and prepared. Lead group sports performance programs focused on speed, agility, strength, and power development? Provides customized one-on-one or semi-private training for members based on sound, professional guidelines. Works with diverse and varying health and fitness levels, ages and special needs. Modifies programs as needed. Keeps accurate and timely records as requested by supervisor (e.g., timesheets and PT logs). Maintains all certifications and keeps up with Training Home assignments. Monitors and instructs members on the safe and effective use of equipment. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies. Always works only within scope of qualifications and maintains confidentiality of member information at all times. Connects members to one another and to other opportunities within the Y and to the Y as an organization. Demonstrates high-level interactions with staff from all departments. Answers questions from members to support them in achieving their goals related to healthy living. Maintains working knowledge of wellness and trends and various YMCA programs; provides effective information and support to members. Uses “Listen First”, and other relationship building skills. Communicates any problems, concerns or “mission moments” with supervisor. Follows-up on communication as needed to ensure resolution. Asks questions for more clarification. Reads weekly updates. Maintains a clean, safe, and sanitary environment in accordance with CDC guidelines. Follows YMCA policies and procedures; responds to emergency situations. Other duties as assigned by supervisor. General Physical Requirements Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Physical Activities List Climbing: Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, poles and the like, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Body agility is emphasized. Balancing: Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces. This factor is important if the amount and kind of balancing exceeds that needed for ordinary locomotion and maintenance of body equilibrium. Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires full use of the lower extremities and back muscles. Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees. Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine. Crawling: Moving about on hands and knees or hands and feet. Reaching: Extending hand(s) and arm(s) in any direction. Standing: Particularly for sustained periods of time. Walking: Moving about on foot to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another. Pushing: Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward. Pulling: Using upper extremities to exert force in order to draw, drag, haul or tug objects in a sustained motion. Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. This factor is important if it occurs to a considerable degree and requires the substantial use of the upper extremities and back muscles. Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly. Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction. Ability to receive detailed information through oral communication, and make fine discriminations in sound. Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Visual Acuity The worker is required to have visual acuity to perform an activity such as: operating machines such as lathes, drill presses, power saws and mills where the seeing job is at or within arm’s reach; performing mechanical or skilled trades tasks of a non-repetitive nature such as carpenters, technicians, service people, plumbers, painters, mechanics, etc. Working Conditions The worker is subject to noise: There is sufficient noise to cause worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level. None: The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work). Preferred minimum of two years of sports performance coaching experience. Knowledge of and ability to teach Olympic lifts and other foundational strength and power movements. Experience working with youth athletes and an understanding of age-appropriate athletic development. Current certification in area(s) of expertise. CPR, First Aid, AED and BBP certifications required. College degree in related field and at least one year of personal training experience preferred. At least one year of experience providing one-on-one training preferred.
