The Hospital is part of NYC Health + Hospitals. Our patients are diverse, with the majority being Afro-Caribbean. Most of our patients are native English speakers. Knowledge of French/Haitian Creole is helpful, but not required.Perform comprehensive eye exams to screen for refractive errors, and eye diseases such as cataracts, glaucoma, diabetic retinopathy, ocular degeneration, etc.Refer patients to subspecialty clinics as needed.Perform dilated Fundoscopy.Manage eye disorders as part of the eye service team.Prescribe eyeglasses, contact lenses, and medications as needed.Provide treatments such as vision therapy or low-vision rehabilitation.Providing pre-and postoperative care to patients undergoing eye surgery as needed.Demonstrates knowledge of the privacy and security rules outlined in the HIPAA guidelines.Adheres to and conforms to all hospital and departmental guidelines, policies, and procedures.Function under the direction of the Department of Ophthalmology.Optometrist hired for the full-time position will continue to staff a monthly Saturday and an evening ophthalmology clinic.QualificationsDoctor of Optometry (O.D.) Degree1 year of residency (Recommended but not required)New York State LicenseWages and Benefits Include: Annual Base Salary: $164,172* based on 40-hour work week.The annual total value of the compensation package is estimated at $180,589**, which includes the baseline salary, 401(k) contribution, and other factors as set forth below:401(k) Company Contribution (subject to IRS contribution limits): Employees are immediately vested in a 3% company contribution of base earnings. No employee match is required.After one year of service, employees receive an additional 7% company contribution of base earnings.
