Fire Prevention Inspector
The City of New Orleans is seeking a Fire Prevention Inspector. This position involves technical inspection and law enforcement work to ensure compliance with city fire prevention regulations and ordinances and related Fire Department policies; investigative work to determine the origins and causes of fires as well as departmental investigations as directed by the Superintendent; public relations work in encouraging the use of fire prevention methods; and related work as required.
Minimum qualifications include a high school diploma or G.E.D. equivalency diploma, five years of experience in fire prevention, firefighting, or law enforcement, certification as a Fire Inspector I by the International Code Council or the National Fire Protection Association, and Peace Officer Standard Training certification from a Louisiana State approved academy. A background check will be conducted on those candidates being considered for hire. Convictions for felonies or numerous misdemeanors may be disqualifying.
