Job Description

The Quality Assurance Technician inspects products and ensures that quality standards are consistently met throughout the manufacturing process. This role works closely with production, engineering, suppliers, and customers to identify, investigate, and resolve quality issues. The technician performs detailed inspections, supports internal and external audits, investigates product defects, and helps implement corrective actions and process improvements. Using measurement tools and engineering drawings, the technician verifies product quality while actively contributing to a safe, efficient, and quality-focused work environment.

Responsibilities

• Inspect products at various stages of the manufacturing process to ensure they meet established quality standards and specifications.
• Use measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures to verify product dimensions and tolerances.
• Read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications to confirm that products conform to design requirements.
• Identify, document, and report quality issues, nonconformances, and product defects to production and engineering teams.
• Support and participate in quality audits, including ISO 9001-related audits, by providing documentation, samples, and process information.
• Assist in investigating root causes of product defects and process issues, and contribute to the development of corrective and preventive actions.
• Collaborate with production, engineering, suppliers, and customers to resolve quality concerns and improve product reliability.
• Monitor manufacturing processes to ensure adherence to quality control procedures and ISO 9001 quality standards.
• Help implement process improvements that enhance product quality, reduce defects, and increase manufacturing efficiency.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, measurements, test results, and quality documentation in quality management systems.
• Communicate quality findings clearly and professionally to team members, supervisors, and other stakeholders.
• Follow all safety and quality procedures to maintain a safe, clean, and compliant production environment.
• Handle and inspect metal parts and components, including those produced in metal fabrication or wire forming operations, as needed.
• Use hand tools and measurement equipment safely and effectively during inspections and product evaluations.

Essential Skills

• 3+ years of quality assurance or manufacturing experience, preferably in a production environment.
• Hands-on quality assurance and quality control experience in manufacturing settings.
• Knowledge of ISO 9001 quality standards and their application in manufacturing processes.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications accurately.
• Proficiency in using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and tape measures.
• Experience working with metals and in manufacturing environments, including metal fabrication or wire forming.
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate defects and identify root causes.
• Effective communication skills for collaborating with production, engineering, suppliers, and customers.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and quality management systems.
• Ability to work safely with hand tools, measurement equipment, and manufacturing machinery.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• 3 - 5+ years of quality experience in manufacturing or related industries.
• Experience supporting quality audits, including those aligned with ISO 9001.
• Experience in metal fabrication, wire forming, or similar manufacturing processes.
• Familiarity with inspection techniques and documentation practices in a quality-controlled environment.
• Ability to contribute to process improvement initiatives and corrective action plans.
• Comfort working with solvents, oils, and other materials commonly used in manufacturing.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high quality standards.

Work Environment

This role operates in a production environment where safety glasses and safety-toe shoes must be worn at all times. The workspace includes exposure to temperature variations ranging from approximately 45&degree;F to 110&degree;F, as well as fumes, solvents, and dust, with occasional handling of hazardous chemicals or oils. The position requires frequent lifting of boxes weighing up to 55 pounds from floor to table or pallet heights, continuous standing and walking throughout an 8-hour shift, and pushing and pulling stacks of parts weighing up to 200 pounds over distances of up to 100 feet. Employees regularly bend, squat, twist, and stoop during product handling tasks, and frequent wrist manipulation is required for inserting and removing parts from machinery. The environment is fast-paced, hands-on, and focused on safety and quality.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Belvidere, IL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $26.00 - $30.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
