The Saw Operator sets up, operates, and maintains saw equipment to prepare steel materials for fabrication, while supporting a variety of fabrication processes. This position suits someone who wants to build a long-term career in steel fabrication, gain hands-on experience, and grow into additional fabrication roles over time.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain saw equipment, including band saws and other cutting machinery, to process steel materials according to specifications.
  • Measure, mark, and cut steel materials accurately using a tape measure and other measuring tools.
  • Assist in the setup and calibration of saw equipment to ensure precise and consistent cuts.
  • Inspect raw materials and finished products for accuracy, quality, and adherence to engineering drawings.
  • Follow all safety protocols and maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free work area.
  • Collaborate with fabrication team members to meet daily production goals and deadlines.
  • Perform basic maintenance and troubleshooting on saw equipment to minimize downtime.
  • Support other fabrication tasks as needed, including welding, grinding, and assembly.
  • Use hand tools and machine shop equipment safely and effectively during cutting and fabrication activities.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and schematics to understand cutting requirements and fabrication sequences.
Essential Skills
  • Previous experience in saw operation, steel manufacturing, metal fabrication, or a closely related field.
  • Hands-on experience operating band saws and other saw equipment in a fabrication or machine shop environment.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering blueprints and schematics.
  • Proficiency in using a tape measure and other measuring tools with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to handle a physically demanding workload, including standing for extended periods and handling steel materials.
  • Experience with basic machine operation and working in a machine shop or fabrication setting.
  • Ability to perform basic equipment troubleshooting and maintenance on saws and related machinery.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, high-quality work.
  • Reliable work habits, including punctuality, consistency, and accountability.
  • Positive attitude and strong work ethic, with a genuine desire to learn and improve.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working in metal fabrication or a similar industrial environment.
  • Familiarity with assembly work related to steel structures or components.
  • Comfort using a variety of hand tools and basic shop equipment.
  • Exposure to welding, grinding, or other fabrication processes with interest in cross-training.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a close-knit team and communicate clearly with coworkers.
  • Willingness to take direction from experienced welder/fabricators and apply feedback constructively.
  • Demonstrated eagerness to grow into additional fabrication roles over time.
Why Work Here?

You will join a small, close-knit team where you can learn directly from highly experienced welder/fabricators and gain hands-on exposure to many aspects of steel fabrication. The environment offers significant opportunity for growth, skill development, and cross-training, allowing motivated individuals to expand their capabilities and advance their careers. You will work in a setting where attitude and work ethic are highly valued, and where people support each other and take pride in the quality of their work.

Work Environment

This role is based in a small fabrication shop that is not temperature controlled, so you should be comfortable working in varying seasonal conditions. You will work on a first shift schedule, Monday through Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The shop environment includes saws, band saws, hand tools, and other fabrication and machine shop equipment.
