Position Details Title: Assistant Coach – Volleyball Level: High School Job ID: 12899 Location: Todd Beamer High School Date Posted: 6/9/2026 Closing Date: Upon Hire Availability: Fall 2026 Hours per Day: 2–4 (approx.) the Athletic Stipend: $3,998–$5,314 DOE Days: Monday – Friday, occasional Saturday Shift: 2:00 pm – 9:00 pm (Mon–Fri) for practices and games, occasional Saturdays Position Type: Assistant Coach – Athletics/Activities Position Summary High school assistant coaches work in concert with the faculty coach to ensure the growth and development of student athletes by focusing on fundamental skills instruction with an emphasis on whole‑child development. This includes expectations for academic and athletic excellence, leadership skills, and positive social relationships. Essential Duties and Responsibilities General Duties Engage in professional development: stay current with sport‑specific literature and attend clinics and workshops. Study and understand the rules and regulations of the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA), Federal Way Public Schools, and the league in which the team competes. Promote the sport within the school and community; report scores and contest information to media and the league website immediately after each contest. Attend practices and contests daily; maintain a reliable attendance record and communicate absences with the athletic director when necessary. Implement the system of play and/or instructional style directed by the head coach. Model safety training for the sport; demonstrate basic athletic training skills, including taping and first aid functions. Exhibit professionalism, good judgment, and positive coaching behaviors; define the program’s culture of teamwork and leadership. Model sportsmanship and ethics; handle losses and adversity with grace, dignity, and pride. Administrative Duties Provide supervision for athletes from arrival to departure. Present and reinforce eligibility requirements, participation rules, and the District Eligibility Code. Ensure all team members complete the eligibility process before participating in any practice activity. Call 911 for serious or difficult injuries; submit an Accident Report Form within 24 hours of an incident; report emergencies to the athletic director and director of athletics. Report scores promptly to local media and the league website as directed. Attend building, district, league, and rule‑clinic meetings when scheduled. Participate in post‑season award gatherings with the head coach. Notify head coach of safety concerns; manage care of equipment and facilities. Report violations or ejections immediately following the contest. Attend evaluation meetings with the building athletic director following the season. Meet regularly with the head coach to discuss program goals and ensure consistent implementation of skills, systems, and strategies. Financial and Equipment Duties Manage program equipment, supplies, and inventory; account for all items checked out at season start. Request essential program needs through the head coach; avoid purchasing items with personal funds. Co‑devise on fundraising activities with the head coach; do not handle funds without prior approval from the athletic director. Other Responsibilities Perform related duties as assigned to support student learning objectives and the effective functioning of the unit. Required Qualifications Education and Experience High school diploma or equivalent. Prior sport‑specific playing and/or coaching experience at a secondary or post‑secondary athletics program and/or related club coaching experience. Proven training and experience in presenting drills, safety factors, and proper application of skills. Additional Requirements Consistent scheduled working hours. Preferred Qualifications Two or more years of paid high school and/or post‑secondary sport‑specific coaching experience, or related club coaching experience. Completion of the National Federation Coaching Fundamentals Course (including passing the test). Condition of Employment 19 years of age or older, per WIAA regulations. Criminal background clearance. First Aid and CPR certification (hands‑on training required). Online Concussion Training. Work Environment Work is performed indoors on surfaces of varying height and stability. Noise level is usually moderate to loud. Work Schedule Varies – depends on the specific sport schedule.
