Dental Assistant

The Dental Assistant supports the mission of People's Community Clinic by assuring that dental services are delivered in a manner consistent with PCC's strong commitment to high quality care and strong patient satisfaction.

The starting range for this position is $18.27 - $22.50 hourly.

Responsibilities

• Greet patients, check in for appointments, screen for insurance eligibility, check out and schedule follow up appointments as necessary.
• Prepare patients for treatment or checkups ensuring their comfort and a positive dental experience.
• Verify patient health history, record blood pressure, complete periodontal charting, document patient treatment chairside, and document appropriately in the patient's chart, abiding by state and federal laws.
• Assist dentist/hygienist during treatments and procedures.
• Clean, sterilize, and prepare the equipment and operatory including stocking supplies and set-up instruments, per the organizations procedures and guidelines, prior to a patient's appointment.
• Expose dental diagnostic x-rays
• Create an environment of respect and compassion for patients and staff and support a friendly and positive work environment.
• Identify opportunities to improve work flow, work processes and patient care, and work cooperatively to implement these and other quality improvements.
• Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA and Infection control guidelines.

Qualifications

Education:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Completion of a dental assistant program from an accredited school

Experience: Minimum 1 year experience as a chairside dental assistant

Certificate/License:

• Registered dental assistant, currently licensed in the State of Texas
• CPR Certified
• X-ray Certified

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred
• Knowledge of dental equipment, material, procedures, terminology and chart preparation
• Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse population
• Self-starter; able to work with minimal supervision
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• Strong organizational skills; Patient, flexible and able to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to problem solve and implement solutions for optimal clinic productivity
• Proficiency in MS word, excel and outlook
