Department Information The Engineering Technology (ET) department offers programs witha hands-on, applied approach to engineering. Focusing more onthe practical aspects of engineering than on the theoreticalaspects, ET blends the application of science, engineeringknowledge, and technical skills to solve problems in a variety offields. ET is the component of engineering that specializesin design and application. Focus areas for the programs areengineering design graphics, manufacturing, applied mechanicalengineering, communication systems, embedded processing and digitalsystems, and power systems. The ET broad educationalfoundation of applied engineering, project-based learning empowersstudents to take state-of-the-art technology and apply it in newand innovative ways to solve real-world problems. Graduates enter the workforce in a wide variety of sectors,including manufacturing, medical devices, heavy equipment,automation, HVAC, automotive design, energy, materials engineering,communications, instrumentation, control systems, digital design,embedded systems design, power, robotics, computers, and many more.Additionally, ET graduates typically pursue professionalcareers in areas such as development, design, quality assurance,technical documentation, production, maintenance, test engineering,field service, technical sales, research and development,management, telecommunications, product improvement, industrialprocesses, and operations. Job Summary Kennesaw State University is now accepting applications for atwelve-month administrative faculty position as a tenured Professorand Chair of the Department of Engineering Technology in theSouthern Polytechnic College of Engineering and EngineeringTechnology with a preferred start date of July 1, 2027. Thisposition is for work to be performed in the state of Georgia. Responsibilities Reporting directly to the Dean of the College, the DepartmentChair of Engineering Technology will guide this dynamic departmentin advancing its strategic priorities, including facultydevelopment, research growth, industry engagement and studentsuccess. As a key member of the college's leadership team, theChair will serve as an advocate for the department within theuniversity and with external partners, while also ensuringexcellence in academic programs and operations. This position offers a unique opportunity to guide a departmentoffering degrees in both Electrical Engineering Technology andMechanical Engineering Technology which has strengths in bothteaching and research. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Shaping and guiding the direction of the Department as a keypart of the College administrative leadership team. Manage departmental resources, budgeting, and personnelmatters. Lead faculty recruitment, retention, mentoring, anddevelopment. Strengthen relationships with industry partners, alumni, andfunding agencies. Represent the department within the college, university, andbroader academic and professional communities. Oversee departmental academic programs, curriculum development,and accreditation efforts. Foster an environment of shared governance andtransparency. Lead faculty development and evaluation. Promote and support high-impact research, innovation, andinterdisciplinary collaboration. Teaching assignments will be based on earned degrees and SACSCOCFaculty Credentials Guidelines. Required Qualifications A terminal degree, or the foreign equivalent, in MechanicalEngineering, Electrical Engineering or a related field with anacademic background and appropriate credentials to be a tenuredfull Professor in the Department of Engineering Technology in theSouthern Polytechnic College of Engineering and EngineeringTechnology at KSU is required at the time of hire. Demonstrated record of excellence in teaching,research/scholarship, and professional service commensurate withthe rank of a tenured full professor. Demonstrated record of successful administrative and/orleadership experience in a university, college, and/ordepartment/school setting (i.e., associate dean, chair, graduatedirector, assistant chair, undergraduate coordinator, internshipdirector, etc.). Evidence of exceptional communication and interpersonalskills Demonstrated record of strong teamwork, ethical behavior, andcollaboration with faculty, administrators, staff, andstudents. Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate is a visionary and collaborative leader witha distinguished teaching and research record, demonstratedadministrative experience, and a commitment to excellence.Desired qualifications include: An ability to successfully develop and implement a strategicvision. Evidence of a successful scholarship program and history ofgrant support as PI or Co-PI for agencies such as NSF, NIH, DOD,DOE, NASA, etc. Evidence of mentoring junior faculty. Industry experience and/or Professional Engineeringlicensure. Record of shared governance and of advocating for students,faculty, staff. A degree in an Engineering Technology discipline, or academicexperience in an Engineering Technology department.
