External Candidates: $78,072 - $79,243/Year
Internal Candidates: $80,415 - $81,586/Year Based on Longevity
Position Summary In collaboration with the Site Manager, the Assistant Site Manager ensures high quality programming and services for participants. The Assistant Site Manager provides direct supervision to the Services Coordinators and Ambassadors. The Assistant Site Manager sets the tone of professionalism for all staff, emphasizing treating participants with dignity and respect, while understanding the vast diversity. The Assistant Site Manager ensures client-driven services with a strength-driven philosophy. This environment will be unique in that it will be developing trusting relationships with participants who were unhoused in encampments and don't usually enter shelter. Primary Duties Participant Interaction/Community Building
Welcome participants and encourage attendance at regularly scheduled community meetings, groups and activities.
Ensure effective provision of services to all participants, during shift.
Informs Site Manager of participant, community, and all public concerns.
Ensure staff interaction with participants is respectful and compassionate.
Collaborate with the Director, SiteManager, and Case Manager to ensure all services and program materials are relevant, engaging, accessible, and understood by participants of differing backgrounds and experiences.
Build and encourage teamwork, trust, and collaboration.
Develop good working relationships with neighbors.
Provide service-focused guidance to shelter staff.
Administration
Supervise, coach, train, and lead direct reports in accordance with ECS policies and procedures, and union contract.
Conduct weekly one-on-one supervision meetings with direct reports.
Design and implement continuing site training in collaboration with the Program Director and Site Manager.
Complete bi-weekly payroll and ensure overtime is minimized.
Develop and implement new policies, as necessary, in collaboration with the Site Manager.
Coordinate program activities during shift.
In collaboration with the Site Manager, create a fair and equitable participant grievance and/or mediation processes.
Attend all ECS leadership meetings and funder meetings.
Provide after-hour consultation to staff during emergencies, which may require occasional on-site after-hour visits. Safety and Security
Oversee the shelter ensuring a safe and healthy environment for staff and participants, during shift.
Conduct regular safety inspections of the facility, during shift.
Provide site safety training to all shelter staff on shift.
In collaboration with ECS' Safety Manager, investigate incidents, injuries, and near misses.
Manage site-specific emergencies or crises and ensure shelter staff provide crisis intervention and de-escalation tactics, during shift.
Carry out regular health and safety building inspections and report all necessary repairs and maintenance tasks to Site Manager.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
Degree in social work or related field preferred.
At least three years' experience working with unhoused adults.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Knowledge of and commitment to client-centric services delivery including harm reduction, trauma-informed care, cultural sensitivity, and motivational practices.
Ability to deal tactfully, diplomatically and objectively with, and form and nurture relationships with a variety of stakeholders including unhoused individuals, shelter participants, front line service providers and outreach workers, program directors, executives, and the public.
Possesses a friendly attitude, customer service mentality, and a good sense of humor.
Good judgement, problem solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to be flexible and adapt to changes and respond to lessons learned and emerging needs.
Excellent organizational and time management skills.
Working knowledge of resources available to people with low incomes and/or experiencing homelessness in San Jose.
Articulate; good verbal and written communication skills.
Other Requirements
Must secure fingerprint image screening and annual TB screening.
Must be able to meet physical requirements of the position, which may include lifting up to 30 lbs.
