Client Overview: Our client is a rapidly growing specialty medical practice focused on comprehensive pain management and spine care. The organization is expanding and bringing billing operations in-house, building out their revenue cycle function to support increasing patient volume and improve operational efficiency. They are currently looking to add a Medical Billing Specialist to their team. Salary/Hourly Rate: $25/hr - $28/hr (Depending on experience) Position Overview: Our client is seeking an experienced Medical Billing Specialist to join their growing in-house Billing team. This is a newly created role reporting to the Billing Manager, with the opportunity to help strengthen day-to-day billing operations for a high-volume pain management/spine practice. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, proactive, and confident in managing the billing cycle, especially EOB interpretation, follow-up/denials, and working across multiple insurance payers (including out-of-network scenarios). Responsibilities of the Medical Billing Specialist:
- Generate, review, and submit medical claims accurately and on time.
- Conduct consistent follow-up on unpaid, denied, or underpaid claims.
- Review and interpret Explanation of Benefits (EOBs) to resolve discrepancies.
- Work claim issues through to resolution with multiple insurance carriers (commercial/government as applicable).
- Support billing activities related to the No Surprises Act (NSA) cases and documentation needs.
- Process EFT (Electronic Funds Transfer) payments and ensure accurate posting/reconciliation support.
- Maintain accurate billing practices and support proper coding/billing workflows.
- Partner with internal teams to resolve billing questions and prevent rework.
- Maintain compliance with payer rules and applicable regulations.
- Support out-of-network billing/workflows (when applicable), including enhanced follow-up and payer communication.
- 2+ years of medical billing experience.
- Strong follow-up/claims resolution experience (denials, underpayments, rejections).
- Hands-on experience reviewing and interpreting EOBs.
- Working knowledge of medical coding and billing procedures.
- Experience with EMR/billing systems (experience in eClinicalWorks (eCW) strongly valued).
- High attention to detail, organization, and ability to manage volume/priorities.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills (comfortable calling payers and escalating appropriately).
- Prior billing experience in pain management, orthopedics, and/or neurosurgery.
- eClinicalWorks (eCW) user experience.
- Knowledge of NSA billing requirements and arbitration processes.
- Experience handling out-of-network claims and navigating payer-specific requirements across multiple carriers.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Billing/coding certifications are a plus.
