Facilities Project Manager

Job Description Summary The Department of Facilities, Facilities Planning, Design & Construction invites applicants to apply for a full-time, temporary, contractual, exempt position. This six‑month position supports campus renovation and capital improvement projects that directly support the University’s academic, research, and student life mission. Salary and Benefits Salary: $10,000 per month. Benefits: No regular benefits. Safe and Sick Leave only. Safe and Sick Leave Guidelines: Under the Maryland Healthy Working Families Act, if you are regularly scheduled to work a minimum of 12 hours a week, you will accrue Sick and Safe leave at the rate of 1 hour for every 30 hours worked, up to a maximum accrual of 40 hours per calendar year. You may carry over up to 40 hours of Sick and Safe leave per calendar year. You may use up to 64 hours of accrued Sick and Safe leave per calendar year and may accrue a maximum of 64 hours in total at any time. You will not be eligible to use Sick and Safe leave until 106 days from your date of hire. Sick and Safe leave balances will be carried over for contract renewals. Upon termination from employment, you will not be entitled to payment for any unused balances; however, if you leave employment and are re‑employed within 37 weeks of your last contract termination date, any unused balance will be reinstated. Primary Responsibilities Manage assigned renovation and capital improvement projects from scope development through construction closeout. Coordinate with campus stakeholders, consultants, and contractors to advance design and construction activities. Monitor project schedules, budgets, and deliverables to ensure alignment with institutional goals. Review construction documents, submittals, RFIs, and change orders in collaboration with senior leadership. Conduct site visits to observe progress and support quality control. Maintain organized project documentation and provide regular project status updates. Perform other related duties as assigned. Preferences: Education and Experience Master’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Facilities Management, or a related field. Five to ten years of progressively responsible experience managing capital construction projects. Experience in institutional or higher education settings. Experience with renovation or laboratory projects. Familiarity with Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and project scheduling tools. Strong attention to detail and accountability. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Collaborative working style. Experience with sustainability, deferred maintenance planning, or research/laboratory facilities is a plus. Preferences: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Technical Knowledge: Construction methods and scheduling. Building codes and ADA compliance. Procurement and contracting processes. State capital project requirements and public bidding laws. Facilities planning and campus master planning. Ability to read and interpret: Architectural and engineering drawings. Construction specifications. Budgets and schedules. Financial and Administrative Skills: Experience managing large project budgets and cost controls. Ability to monitor project expenditures, change orders, and contingency usage. Familiarity with capital budgeting and reporting requirements. Strong contract administration skills. Leadership and Communication: Excellent organizational and problem‑solving skills. Ability to coordinate among multiple stakeholders, including architects, engineers, contractors, campus leadership, faculty, staff, and students. Physical Demands May require bending, stooping, reaching, carrying, and frequent heavy lifting. May require working in adverse weather conditions. May require wearing personal protective equipment. May require operating a variety of equipment, including office equipment. Minimum Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Experience: Five years of progressively responsible experience in project management and complexity, including three years of lead or supervisory role. Other: Additional work experience may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis for up to four years of the required education. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities: Project management best practices. Oral and written communication. Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Project planning, execution, and risk management. Ability to manage deadlines and budgetary guidelines.
