Position Overview:

The MCRS Second Responder Supervisor supports the Mobile Crisis Manager by overseeing second responder team operations within the Mobile Crisis Response Services (MCRS) framework. This role supervises team members who assist with scene stabilization, linkage to resources, follow-up, and logistical support in the field. The supervisor is responsible for daily oversight, quality assurance, documentation review, and ensuring second responders are equipped to support individuals and families during and after a behavioral health crisis.

This position requires strong communication, organization, and team management skills. The Second Responder Supervisor will also serve in the on-call rotation to ensure 24/7 coverage for program operations.

Essential Duties:

• Supervise and support second responder staff to ensure quality non-clinical services are provided on scene or post-intervention.

• Conduct regular field observations and provide performance coaching.

• Ensure proper documentation, tracking, and closure of all second responder encounters.

• Monitor timeliness and efficiency of second responder dispatches and responses.

• Train new hires and ensure all staff meet onboarding requirements and performance expectations.

• Review dispatch logs and field activity to identify service trends and areas for improvement.

• Support debriefings with team members after high-risk or complex situations.

• Collaborate with Mobile Crisis leadership and dispatch to ensure second responders are utilized in alignment with operational needs such as hybrid dispatches

• Participate in internal audits and ensure compliance with operational protocols.

• Support coordination of outreach, resource distribution, and linkage to follow-up services.

• Respond to on-call needs, including emergencies, coverage gaps, and operational issues.

• Foster team communication, morale, and staff development through regular meetings and check-ins.

• Assist in conflict resolution and contribute to a safe and professional work environment.

• Complete a minimum of 2 responses a month (with at least one being in person).

Experience, Skills and Qualifications:

• Minimum 2 years providing behavioral health/ crisis intervention services.

• 1 year in a supervisory or team lead position, preferably in crisis response, public safety, social services, or a related field (preferred).

• Strong organizational, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.

• Ability to manage dynamic situations with calm, confidence, and professionalism.

• Skilled in conflict resolution and supportive communication.

• Comfort with technology, including dispatch software, electronic documentation, and communication platforms.

Education & Credentials:

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.

• Certified Peer Specialist (preferred).

• Certified Peer Specialist Supervisor training completed or willingness to obtain (preferred).

• Mindset (de-Escalation training)

Travel Requirements   

• This position requires travel about 50% of the time.  

Work Location & Schedule Requirements   

In general, this is a remote position, that will not require daily reporting to an office. However, you will be required to respond on scene, attend in-person meetings, or participate in other community engagement events regularly. All employees must be willing to work flexible schedules, including holidays, nights and weekends as dictated by business needs. 

Physical Requirements  

This position often operates in a remote, home office environment with in-person, business and leadership meetings required as business needs present. The position routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers – including virtual meeting software and various communications applications and telephones. Technical proficiency and the ability to perform computer work for 8+ hours a day is required. 

This position also requires in-person mobile fieldwork, which may include quality reviews, participation in community engagement activities and leadership training and meeting events. Travel is required via the employees own personal vehicle, and BHL is not responsible for the cost of damages, maintenance or repairs for vehicles used in the line of work. The ability to stand, walk, speak and move freely (including navigating stairs and uneven pavement) is required. The ability to be outside for an entire workday, either day or night, is also a requirement. Driving in any condition, including traffic, day or night for the entirety of the workday may be required. Bending, lifting, and manipulating objects up to 25 lbs. may be occasionally required. First responders must be able to drive in a car for the duration of their assigned shift, if necessary.
