Staff Accountant

Position Title: Staff Accountant Department: Accounting Location: New York, Midtown East Development Corporation for Israel/ Israel Bonds is an organization offering securities issued by the State of Israel. Position Summary: The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing support to the accounting department by ensuring checks and credit cards are processed in a timely manner; balance sheet-accounts listed below are reconciled from work papers for G/L; and closing is complete, accurate and timely. Areas not familiar with – Assistant Controller will train you. Deposit checks and record deposits in G/L Input credit card payments into system and record in the G/L Reconcile payroll checking account. Responsible for petty cash, postage, fixed assets, and prepaid expenses Record Union payroll in the G/L Back-up A/P supervisor Responsible for portion of balance sheet for monthly closings Review checks presented over $1000 from branch offices to ensure they are bona fide expenditures of DCI. Record all outgoing wires into either the A/P or G/L system. Ensure employees are following policies and procedures when submitting checks, credit cards and A/P requests for processing. Responsible for review and coding of monthly employee American Express bill Maintain daily rates on Internet. Prepare office productivity reports at least semi-annually. OTHER DUTIES Such other duties as directed by the Assistant Controller as he/she deems appropriate and necessary to meet the needs of the Accounting Department. Proficient in use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook and accounting system software (including Clarus A/P and G/L) SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY This position has no supervisory responsibilities . WORK ENVIRONMENT This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. PHYSICAL DEMANDS The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is largely a sedentary role; however, this position requires constant communication and the ability to exchange accurate information, the ability to operate a computer and other office equipment, lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. POSITION TYPE/EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK This is a full-time position. Hours of work are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., 35 hours per week. Work extended/evening hours, weekends and holidays when needed. TRAVEL Travel is not expected for this position.
