Hiring Department TV Station Job Description KOMU 8 News is looking for a television news producer to help lead our morning newscast. We're seeking someone who has strong editorial judgment, collaborates well with others, and enjoys building energetic, viewer-focused shows to help mid-Missouri start their day. This is more than a producing job. As part of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, you'll work alongside professional journalists and help mentor the next generation of television producers and reporters. The ideal candidate is someone who can balance the responsibilities of producing and student coaching while maintaining a calm approach under daily deadline pressure. Our morning producer must be able to work in a collaborative environment with anchors, reporters, meteorologists, digital producers, assignment editors, directors, and newsroom managers. You'll also work closely with student producers, providing guidance while helping them develop the skills needed to succeed in other professional newsrooms. We're looking for someone who is dependable, organized, decisive, and excited to help shape a morning show that serves viewers across mid-Missouri on every platform. Duties and Responsibilities Produce engaging, audience-focused morning newscasts Write clear, conversational TV copy that is accurate, urgent, and easy to understand Lead breaking news coverage, find new stories from overnight, and make quick editorial decisions as stories develop Collaborate with the morning team and other staff member on stories, assignments, and coverage planning Mentor and coach student producers, helping them develop newsroom leadership, editorial decision-making, and producing skills Monitor overnight developments, news wires, social media, email and viewer tips to identify breaking and developing stories Collaborate with newsroom leadership to identify promotable content and coordinate coverage across broadcast, digital, and social platforms Maintain high journalistic standards for accuracy, fairness, ethics, and legal compliance. Contribute to a collaborative newsroom culture that values teamwork, accountability, innovation, and continuous improvement Perform other duties as assigned Shift 12am-8am, Tuesday - Saturday Minimum Qualifications An Associate's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary Preferred Qualifications Professional experience producing local television newscasts Strong writing and copy-editing skills Strong news judgment and the ability to make confident decisions under deadline. Experience covering breaking news and severe weather Ability to prioritize multiple tasks while remaining calm in high-pressure situations. Experience using newsroom systems such as Inception, ENPS, iNews, or similar newsroom software Familiarity with digital content management systems and social media platforms Experience mentoring or training others is a plus A demonstrated commitment to teamwork and professionalism Anticipated Hiring Range Salary Range: $20.00-$25.00 hourly Grade: GGS-7 University Title: Television Producer Internal applicants can determine their University title by accessing the Talent Profile tile in myHR.
