Step into a rewarding role supporting a small group of upper-elementary students as a Special Education Teacher in a self-contained classroom setting. Located near West Hartford, CT, this contract position provides the chance to create positive, lasting impacts for students in grades 4 through 6. The assignment starts as soon as possible and runs through December 31, 2026, offering stability and a meaningful professional experience.

As a Special Education Teacher, you’ll collaborate closely with two paraprofessionals to provide individualized instruction and support for a class of five students. Your knowledge of diverse learning needs and commitment to fostering growth will help your students build confidence and succeed both academically and socially.

Key Qualifications & Experience:

• Valid Special Education Teaching certification
• Experience working in self-contained classrooms, particularly with upper elementary grades
• Strong understanding of IEP development and implementation
• Ability to communicate effectively with staff, students, and families
• Flexibility, patience, and problem-solving skills

Primary Responsibilities:

• Deliver differentiated instruction based on individualized education plans (IEPs)
• Adapt lessons and materials to accommodate various learning styles and needs
• Track student progress, maintain records, and prepare reports as required
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals to ensure cohesive classroom support
• Foster a caring, positive classroom environment that encourages growth and self-advocacy
• Engage in ongoing communication with families and related service providers
