Summary: The Polysomnographic Technologist performs comprehensive diagnostic and therapeutic sleep studies in accordance with physician orders, American Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) standards, and organizational policies. This position is responsible for patient assessment, preparation, monitoring, data acquisition, troubleshooting equipment, scoring studies, and providing patient education regarding sleep disorders and prescribed therapies.

The technologist collaborates with physicians, advanced practice providers, respiratory therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure accurate diagnosis and treatment of sleep-disorders while promoting an exceptional patient experience.

Responsibilities:

• Prepares patients for overnight, daytime, and home sleep studies. Disinfect equipment between patient use.
• Obtains and documents patient medical history and sleep-related symptoms.
• Recognizes and responds appropriately to patient emergencies.
• Performs and monitors diagnostic procedures including: PSG, CPAP/BiPAP titration studies, Split-night studies, Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Home Sleep Test (HST), Pediatric sleep studies (4+YO)
• Apply EEG, EOG, EMG, ECG, respiratory and pulse oximetry sensors according to AASM guidelines.
• Troubleshoot equipment and signal quality during studies.
• Monitor physiological data throughout testing, identify and document abnormal events.
• Initiate CPAP/BiPAP therapy per physician orders and protocol. Score sleep studies according to AASM scoring guidelines (after credentialing)
• Obtain and maintain certification and education in sleep.
