Chief Administrative Officer

Tulsa City-County Library, a valued partner in the Tulsa County community since 1961, is seeking a dynamic, visionary library professional to fill the role of Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) . This key member of senior leadership will drive innovation by partnering with other executive leadership members to ensure long-term sustainability of the library. This role will be key in successfully executing current library build projects, the facility master plan and related capital projects, and in developing and implementing a long-range plan to keep the library relevant and accessible to all.

Qualified individuals must have an MBA or related Master's degree, and ten or more years of proven progressive operations experience and strategic responsibility. Experience in a large library system and prior C-Suite experience preferred. Strong analytic skills and a proven ability to remain flexible and engaged is required. Must also have a strong understanding of:

• Business operations
• Emerging technology
• Project leadership
• Stakeholder relations
• Change management

As an independent library district TCCL has a dedicated annual operating budget of approximately $40 million and a robust 501(c)(3) foundation. The library features three ethnic resource centers, a genealogy center and dispenses several unique annual author awards replete with cash prizes, which attract high-caliber authors to Tulsa. We have 24 public and two non-public locations. Over 5 million visits take place yearly! TCCL is well on its way of adapting to the future innovative role of libraries. As the former oil-wealth capital of the world, Tulsa is considered the cultural and arts center of the state. The city features two world-class museums, art deco architecture, a symphony, opera, an oratorio chorus, a vibrant music scene (often compared to Austin), and inarguably one of the best ballet companies in the US. It also regularly attracts the biggest musical acts in the world and nearly all traveling Broadway shows. Shopping and outdoor recreation are plentiful. The area features beautiful topography, temperate winters, and extremely affordable housing.

Qualifications

• Knowledgeable in current policies and practices as well as future trends, technology, and information in the library profession;
• Displays good judgment in analyzing and promoting ideas to benefits customer base and communities served;
• Proven ability to remain flexible and engaged during peak periods of organizational transformation:
• Ability to effectively present information in a variety of settings;
• Proven success in managing change through both short- and long-range planning;
• Strong understanding and support of organizational culture;
• Solid understanding of budget and an overall business mindset;
• Ability to think strategically and make good decisions under pressure;
• Superior analytical skills and knowledge of performance metrics.

Education & Experience

• MBA or equivalent business focused Master’s degree required;
• MLIS or four or more years’ experience working in a large multi-branch library, mid-size government entity, or non-profit sector preferred;
• Ten+ years progressive leadership experience required; C-Suite experience preferred;
• Experience with capital campaigns and public procurement required;
• Experience with contract negotiations and basic real estate statutes;
• Experience working in a large organization working cross-departmentally;
• Advanced understanding of strategic planning processes and performance measures.

Salary: Commensurate with experience.

Status: Exempt - Full Time

Schedule: Monday - Friday 8 am - 5 pm; some weekends and evenings as needed;

Physical Activity & Environmental Conditions

Work occasionally requires stooping or bending. Occasional light lifting, such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds) may be required.

There are no major sources of discomfort; work is essentially conducted in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature and air conditions.
