FRANKLIN COUNTY COMMUNITY SCHOOL CORPORATION JOB TITLE: BUILDING PRINCIPAL POSITION TYPE: FULL TIME / CERTIFIED 210 DAYS (ELEMENTARY-MIDDLE SCHOOL) & 230 DAYS (HIGH SCHOOL) REPORTS TO: SUPERINTENDENT EVALUATED BY: SUPERINTENDENT EMPLOYEE EVALUATED ANNUALLY Chief Administrator/Educator Leader The purpose of the Building Principal is to be the chief administrator and educational leader of his/her school. This role demands decision‑making skills necessary to implement, improve, and promote the programs of the school. The Building Principal shall not only exhibit leadership through personal direction and administration, but shall recognize and utilize the leadership and unique abilities of others. Instructional Leader The principal is an instructional leader who assumes the role of Instructional Leadership and accepts responsibility for the success of all students. Conducts group meetings which will cooperatively implement, improve, and promote the educational programs of the school Confers and counsels with professional, paraprofessional, and non‑professional personnel to implement, improve, and promote the educational program of the school Observes and supervises the teaching‑learning situation and other activities as they occur within the classroom and outside of the classroom Organizes a personal schedule to provide time for supervisory work with school and interests of the school Works closely with new personnel and personnel in need of help Recommends adjustments and modifications of the educational program to fit the needs and interests of the school Recommends personnel to serve on corporation‑wide committees Equitably assigns personnel within the building to responsibilities required to implement, improve, and promote the educational program and considers staff development and improvement in making assignments Encourages and promotes professional growth of staff by inter‑ and intra‑school visitation, participation in workshops, conferences, in‑service activities and college courses, and cooperative planning and teaching with colleagues Provides opportunities and support for personnel to develop new ideas and more effective techniques Evaluates all professional, paraprofessional, and non‑professional personnel for improvement of instruction, promotion, tenure, and dismissal and interprets the evaluation criteria to all personnel at the beginning of each school year DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES Develops and continues to refine a master plan, including the delineation of the objectives and goals required to affect a balanced, comprehensive, and cohesive educational program within the school Schedules classes, facilities, personnel, and use of equipment as required for the efficient operation of the educational program Provides personnel the necessary materials, equipment, and facilities required for the efficient performance of their duties Directs the co‑curricular program of the school Develops, maintains, and upgrades the morale and the moral and ethical standards of the school Files an annual report outlining present conditions and school progress made during the year, including constructive suggestions for improvement of the school for the next school year Keeps informed on the latest in good school procedure Sees that the state course of study is followed and that no textbooks or text material are used other than that approved by the Indiana Department of Education and/or the Superintendent Identifies staff needs and recommends qualifications needed to fill vacancies Recommends candidates for approval to fill known and anticipated vacancies Cooperates with administrative, supervisory, consultant, and other personnel assigned or attached to the building and facilities Evaluates the performance of personnel in the school on a continuing basis and reports his/her evaluations to the Superintendent Recommends the transfer of personnel to obtain maximum benefit from the potential of the individual in question and mutually approves with the other principals and the Superintendent the transfer of personnel Recommends personnel for re‑employment, promotion, permanent, or dismissal Reviews and recommends personal and professional leaves prior to the Superintendent’s consideration Reports cases of personnel on matters of personal concern Confers with personnel on matters of personal concern Assists the substitute teacher concerning rules Implements and monitors appropriate components of the school corporation’s testing program Approves all programs and outside speakers who are invited to participate in school activities Attends, or designates a subordinate to attend, all activities such as school plays, athletic contests, and other events sponsored by the school Recommends all outside‑of‑school corporation trips by certified personnel before referring the request to the Administration Office personnel Determines a grouping plan that stimulates, motivates, and challenges students to attain their maximum potential Assigns students to appropriate educational programs which best fit their needs Administers the attendance program of the school, refers cases to the attendance officers when warranted, and completes all attendance records and reports Assists teachers in identifying potential behavior problems and provides support and guidance to teachers in disciplinary matters. The principal has the responsibility to implement established policies on the suspension and expulsion of students. Develops and administers fair and equitable regulations for the conduct and decorum of students in the school and in school activities Approves the promotion or retention of students in the school Follows the procedure in case of accident or serious illness of a pupil or personnel: administers first aid if necessary, contacts parents, arranges a physician if required, and reports full details to the central office. Maintains an equal distribution of pupils per class as much as possible Verifies the residence of each student attending the school Develops the master schedule for the school day Assigns appropriate supervision as needed Cooperatively establishes educational priorities for materials and adjusts these priorities to meet the needs of the teachers and students within the allowable or anticipated funds Prepares an annual list of maintenance and construction projects Collects, deposits, and expends all funds in accordance with the regulation of the State Board of Accounts and/or the policies of the Board of School Trustees. A monthly activity fund report showing previous balance, receipts, disbursements, outstanding checks and current balance shall be submitted to the Administration Office. All schools shall file Report SA5 (Financial Report/School Extracurricular Account) within two weeks of the end of each school year. Maintains accurate records of monies collected and expended from the co‑curricular account Supervises all building personnel (first day of school through the last) in a manner that will cause the facility to be maintained in a clean, safe, and aesthetic condition at all times Systematically inspects the building and grounds regarding safety and cleanliness Prepares or approves a schedule for cleaning and supervises the cleaning to assure the building is appropriately maintained Implements the appropriate steps of the emergency school closing procedure Directs and controls the distribution of materials and equipment Requests proper maintenance for all instructional equipment and requests necessary replacement for instructional materials and equipment Supervises storage of materials and equipment under best available conditions Participates in decisions when construction, remodeling, or additions are involved Directs and supervises the appropriate use of telephones, inter‑communication systems, and school‑wide written communications Supervises the preparation, maintenance, and storage of all school records Administers the textbook rental system and orders or requests books and supplies according to approved procedures Refers requests for maintenance service to the maintenance department Approves all requisitions for supplies and equipment originating in his/her school Completes and files attendance information with the Administration Office at the designated time Reports to the Administration Office before leaving the school corporation on a school day Provides for the required number of fire, tornado, and man‑made disaster drills Arranges for transportation of pupils for athletics, field trips, and exhibitions Exhibits professional behavior in the conduct of all duties Participates cooperatively in professional development activities with faculty members, fellow principals, and other corporation personnel Keeps abreast of developments, trends, and research concerning the school, its program, and its administration Participates actively in professional organizations dealing with the school program and his/her professional responsibilities Behaves in a manner that exemplifies ethical standards and the worth and dignity of the individual Administers all programs under the provisions of the law, the policies of the Board of School Trustees, and the rules and regulations of the corporation Performs all other duties prescribed by the Superintendent QUALIFICATIONS Hold, or is eligible to hold, a valid Indiana Elementary or Secondary Administration and Supervision License or a Building Level Administration License Hold a master’s degree from an accredited institution with a major in Educational Administration or Educational Leadership Hold a valid Indiana teaching license Have had at least three (3) years of teaching experience Previous administrative experience preferred #J-18808-Ljbffr
