Traveling Solar Field Service

Electrician $55.00 - $70.00/ hour

Prevailing Wage | Full-Time | 100% Travel | Illinois | Licensed Electrician

Express Employment Professionals is recruiting on behalf of an industry-leading renewable energy company seeking a Traveling Solar Field Service Technician to support utility-scale solar farms across Illinois.

No two days are the same. You'll travel to utility-scale solar facilities, troubleshoot electrical equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and help keep America's renewable energy infrastructure operating at peak performance.

What You'll Do

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar systems.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues.
• Inspect, test, repair, and replace electrical components and equipment.
• Perform maintenance on solar inverters and related electrical systems.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics and single-line diagrams.
• Complete service reports and maintenance documentation.
• Work closely with customers and internal technical teams.
• Maintain a safe work environment while following OSHA and company safety standards.
• Travel extensively to customer locations throughout Illinois.

What We're Looking For

• Licensed Electrician
• Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
• Ability to read electrical drawings and schematics.
• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to work independently.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills.
• Comfortable using computers, tablets, and mobile applications for reporting.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to pass a background check, motor vehicle record check, and drug screening.

Preferred Experience

• Solar photovoltaic (PV) systems
• Industrial electrical maintenance
• Commercial electrician experience
• Utility-scale renewable energy
• Power generation equipment
• Inverters, transformers, and switchgear
• National Electrical Code (NEC)
• Commissioning or startup experience

Physical Requirements

• Lift up to 50 pounds.
• Walk, stand, kneel, climb, and work on uneven terrain for extended periods.
• Climb ladders and stairs.
• Work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Travel up to 100%, overnight stays possible.
