Senior Technical Specialist – Workers’ Compensation Claims Major Case Unit (MCU) Senior Technical Specialist in the Workers’ Compensation Major Case Unit (MCU) responsible for providing technical expertise in handling high‑valued, complex WC claims involving serious injuries, catastrophic losses, or litigation. Responsibilities Reserve, negotiate, strategize, litigate, and finalize assigned claims. Manage indemnity, medical, and legal aspects for Virginia (VA), Minnesota (MN), and other jurisdictions. Use medical management services, coordinate independent evaluations, and pursue early-return solutions. Document file activity accurately and timely. Approve benefits within authority levels and ensure compliance with statutory requirements. Evaluate claim exposure, establish and adjust reserves throughout the claim life cycle. Identify claims exceeding delegated authority and refer to management. Convey claim facts and actions in claim committee forum. Develop and update resolution strategy plans to achieve timely closure. Conduct claimant negotiations to settle within authority limits. Assist other teams with reserving, resolution, or negotiation strategy as needed. Qualifications Minimum 8 years of Workers’ Compensation claim handling experience, including VA claims. State adjuster licenses preferred but not required. Bachelor’s degree from a four‑year college or university preferred. Strong technical claim handling and organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
