Position Description

A. Title:  Head Start Assistant Teacher

B. Immediate Supervisor:  Education Services Manager

C. Classification:  Permanent / Part-Time or Full-Time-Head Start Program

D. Status:  Non-Exempt

E. Directly Supervises:  None

F. Summary:

This position serves as the teacher assistant in a classroom of 14 to 20 Head Start children. This position is chiefly responsible for the following core functions of the Head Start program and performs other tasks as needed:

• Planning (5%)
• Program Implementation (60%)
• Family PartnershipBuilding (10%)
• Communication and Service Coordination (10%)
• Record Keeping and Recording (10%)
• On-going Monitoring and Self-Assessment (5%)

Qualifications

• Must have Child Development Associate certificate, AA degree preferred, or equivalent experience and commitment to secure C.D.A. certificate within one (1) year.
• Pass physical examination, background check, and fingerprinting screen
• Able to lift a child weighing 40 pounds, 20 times a day if needed
• Driver’s license required for teachers, leadership team and family advocates
• Basic computer literacy in email, word processing and internet navigation (for all positions except for the cook, custodian).
• Maintain certification in CPR and First Aid, if required
