ASSISTANT HR MANAGER

HAMMOND, IN

As a member of the HR team, the Assistant HR Manager will be responsible for performing administrative duties for the Human Resource function in a just-in-time, lean manufacturing environment. Incumbents will interview and train employees, address complaints and resolve problems, assist in policy and procedure development, and process, verify, and maintain documentation related to personnel activities such as staffing, recruitment, training, grievances, performance evaluations, and classifications. Your work will include, but not be limited to: Explain company personnel policies, benefits, and procedures to employees or job applicants. Record data for each employee, including addresses, weekly earnings, logistics, absences, counseling issues, and dates and reasons for terminations. Process and review employment applications to evaluate qualifications or eligibility of applicants. Answer questions regarding examinations, eligibility, salaries, benefits, and other pertinent information. Examine employee files to answer inquiries and provide information for personnel actions. Coach employees on conflict resolution and performance issues. Provide information to authorized persons and organizations, such as credit bureaus and finance companies, in compliance with Lear Hammond confidentiality practices and HIPAA regulations. Perform administrative functions such as printing pay stubs, resetting passwords, checking discrepancies with time, and handling filing status changes using SuccessFactors, Kronos, People Soft, and Q-Quest databases. Serve as employee advocate by responding to questions about benefits programs such as life, health, dental and disability insurance, retirement plans, vacation, sick leave, leave of absence, and employee assistance. Identify legal requirements and government reporting regulations affecting HR functions and ensure policies, procedures, and reporting are in compliance. Recruit, interview, test, and select employees to fill vacant positions. Complete paperwork and reports as required or requested with due diligence. Plan and conduct new employee orientation to foster a positive attitude toward company goals. Provide recommendations for the resolution of employee relations issues. Review FMLA requests. Respond to inquiries regarding policies, procedures, and programs. Develop and/or maintain job descriptions for all new positions, perform desk audits on workstations, review and update job descriptions as needed. Initiate investigations regarding allegations of harassment, discrimination, and/or inappropriate conduct. Maintain confidentiality of the HR department regarding employee disclosures and issues. Responsibilities Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology. Knowledge of the operational characteristics, services, and activities of a comprehensive HR program to assist in setting and achieving departmental goals. Knowledge of adult learning practices and techniques to include visual aids, interactive exercises, activities, and theoretical application as needed to train. Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects. Knowledge of principles and practices of personnel management and administration, including supervision, training, performance evaluation, and related organizational processes. Ability to analyze problems, identify alternative solutions, project consequences of proposed actions, and implement recommendations in support of goals. Ability to maintain confidentiality of work records. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional documents, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and routine business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, and the general public. Ability to develop long‑term plans and programs, evaluate work accomplishments, and apply and adapt practices and techniques to the special requirements of personnel management. Possess strong analytical, problem‑solving, and interpersonal skills. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field preferred with 1‑3+ years experience as a Human Resources Generalist in a manufacturing setting.
