Job Description and Duties
The Conservationist 2 position may coordinate and oversee the following activities:
Corpsmember Education and Training - Ensure that educational assessments are completed for all Corpsmembers at a CCC center and coordinates educational resources to meet the needs of Corpsmembers. Ensure that all Corpsmembers receive CCC core courses (Conservation Awareness and Career Development). Work with education delivery services to provide Corpsmembers with a variety of opportunities. Coordinates the training of all corpsmembers at a CCC center, working with staff to assess training needs. Contract with training providers and develop training schedules.
Corpsmember Initial Orientation - Coordinate the training and orientation of 10-25 new Corpsmembers newly entering the CCC program. Ensure delivery of standard curriculum, coordinate trainers through internal and external means, deliver training, evaluate new corpsmember trainees and develop and mentor corpsmember leaders assisting in the delivery of training. Maintain training records.
Center Safety - Assist Conservationist Supervisor to audit center programs to reduce the number and severity of work-related injuries. Assist the facility and project managers to develop safe working strategies. Schedule and track safety training needs for the staff and members. Assist with the delivery of our annual safety stand down.
CMD Special Corpsmembers - Oversee the recruitment, training, and supervision of the Special Corpsmembers (SpCM) assigned to CMD. Ensure adherence to CCC policies and procedures, and that tasks are completed up to the standard of their pathways. Review timekeeping for each SpCM and provide guidance and training for successful delivery of the CMD program.
Project Coordination - Coordinate resource conservation projects in rural and urban areas, often in remote areas of California. Assist in developing work contracts and act as lead person for CCC crew supervisors. Schedule crews to perform work projects and coordinate logistics. May act as relief supervisor for crews. Maintain project files, vehicle files and CMD files. Prepare and submit monthly project spreadsheets.
Agency Representative - Report to emergencies and act as an Agency Representative (AREP) under the Incident Command System.

Working Conditions
This postion reports to the Fortuna Center located at 1500 Alamar Way Fortuna, CA 95540.
The person selected for this position will have an office at the Fortuna Center, and access to vehicle fleet to visit crews throughout the service area. The CCC Fortuna Center conducts project work in the geographical area between the Oregon border to the North, northern Mendocino County to the South, and from the coastline to the mountains of western Trinity County. This service area means close proximity to the beach, the forest, rivers and redwood forest groves.Some travel will be required for trainings and emergency assignments.
This position is classified as “In Office” and is not eligible for telework.
Special Requirements
- Commercial Driver License – Provide evidence that a Commercial Class C license with a Passenger Transport Vehicle special endorsement (or equivalent) has been obtained from the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV).
- Pre-employment Drug Test – Pass a urine drug test. In accordance with the Federal Highway Administration regulations (49 CFR, Part 382), persons hired to a class requiring a commercial driver license must take and pass a pre-employment drug test. Please note : Per California Code of Regulations 213.5, applicants who fail the drug test pursuant to section 213.4 (h), will be disqualified from the examination in which they are competing and, except as provided by section 213.5 (e), shall not be eligible to take any State civil service examination for a class for which drug testing is required until one year has elapsed from the date the drug test specimen is given.
- Background Investigation – Undergo fingerprinting and successfully pass a Criminal Offender Record Information check completed by the Department of Justice (DOJ) which may or may not also include a background check through the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
- Medical Exam – A medical clearance exam is required for this classification.

- Reinstatement Eligibility – Previously obtained permanent employment with the State of California in the same classification or in a classification that is comparable. - Training & Development (T&D) Assignment – State employees in a permanent appointment, and no longer on probation, may be considered for a T&D assignment.
