High School Assistant Principal/Dean of Curriculum & Instruction (2026-2027) North Providence, Rhode Island Starting Salary: $68,000 - $107,000, commensurate with experience. Observe classes regularly and give written and verbal feedback to teachers, focusing on classroom procedures, instruction, and curriculum. Maintain frequent contact with all direct reports, ensuring presence in all classrooms weekly and conducting bi‑weekly meetings with preparatory agendas to maximize effectiveness. Target support toward individual teacher needs, ensuring all classes are engaging, challenging, and accessible to all learners and that students master both basic skills and higher‑level abstract material. Drive curriculum development: align Excel Academy curriculum with Rhode Island Curriculum Frameworks, ensure rigor, and collaborate with network department heads and the Head of School to reflect the school’s mission. Utilize assessment data strategically: help teachers develop and implement high‑quality class and school‑wide assessments, monitor and guide assessment quality, and coach teachers to improve student academic performance. Manage student standardized testing. Support all students’ achievement by partnering with the Head of School and Dean of Student Supports to plan, execute, and analyze intervention programs for diverse academic subgroups. Oversee the special education and ELL inclusion program, working with specialists and core teachers to design, monitor, and improve inclusion practices. Create a positive student culture: coach teachers to embed Excel’s Student Culture Vision into the curriculum, provide feedback on behavior management systems, and collaborate with the Chair of Students to enforce conduct and plan proactive culture initiatives. Develop and lead the professional culture of teaching staff: facilitate group professional development, design and implement the teacher PD program (including instructional visits and leadership growth opportunities), plan staff meetings, write evaluations, support hiring and retention, and manage staff aspirations. Collaborate with the Head of School in school leadership: articulate and translate the vision for Excel’s program, perform self‑assessments, nurture a dynamic staff culture, support knowledge management, set high expectations, and oversee programmatic budgets. Serve as a productive member of the Excel community: uphold staff norms, substitute when needed, participate in Friday meetings, school PD, family conferences, and the network‑wide community of instructional leaders, and support the administrative team. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred. Minimum of five years teaching experience required, preferably in a high‑performing urban public charter or district school. Demonstrated efficacy in raising academic achievement for historically underserved students. Ability to promote rigorous classroom instruction and culture. Preferred: Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, or another language commonly spoken by students and families at an advanced level; first‑generation college graduate; low‑income background.
