The Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation is recruiting for a Fish and Game Program Technician located in Galena, Alaska!
What You Will Be Doing:
The Department of Fish & Game, Division of Wildlife Conservation, is recruiting for a Program Technician stationed in Galena from August 1 through January 31. This position will serve as the initial public contact for the hunting and trapping public at the Galena office. This person will be responsible for answering questions about hunting and trapping regulations, hunting opportunities, hunter education, and wildlife viewing in the region and statewide. The office also provides services such as sealing hides and furs, harvest reporting, sample collection and other services required by regulation. This position will assisting with logistical support to management biologists in operation of the hunter checkstation and conducting aerial wildlife surveys.
This position will provide an opportunity to serve hunters and trappers in a rural community in the western interior of Alaska. The work will include a mix of office management, data entry and data summarization, and remote fieldwork. The position requires independent work as well as close coordination and facilitation of work conducted by the area wildlife biologists.

The Working Environment You Can Expect:
The position is located at the ADF&G office in Galena, AK. The daily work environment involves effective communication and teamwork with office coworkers as well as regular use of a computer while assisting the public in person and over the phone at the information desk of the Galena office. Fieldwork is required throughout the year and may involve exposure to animals, biting insects, inclement weather, firearms, low-level aircraft flight, and/or travel by boat or skiff. Aerial surveys are conducted in small aircraft maneuvering at low altitude for long periods of time in sometimes cold conditions.
Who We Are Looking For:
The key responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to performing the following tasks and training other technicians to perform the following tasks:
- Providing customer service to diverse groups, including disseminating local and statewide hunting and trapping regulations.
- Issue licenses, permits, and harvest tickets.
- Processing harvest reports and ensuring accuracy in data collection.
- Entering harvest and survey data and completing data summaries for the area wildlife biologists, and
- Experience or education with electronic databases including Excel, Access, and ArcGIS.
