Aquatics Manager Pay: Starting at $55,000.00 per year Schedule 1: Sun.-Tues. 8:30 AM- 5 PM, Wed. & Thurs. Off, Fri. & Sat. 3-11:30 PM Schedule 2: Sun. 9:45 AM- 6 PM, Mon. & Tues. Off, Wed. & Thurs: 9:45 AM- 6 PM, Fri. 1 PM- 11PM, & Sat. 1 PM- 10:30 PM Who We Are: Smoky Mountain Resorts is a family-focused, collaborative and goal-driven hospitality resort company. Purpose: The Aquatics Manager (AQM) will become a key leader at one of the best ranked vacation resorts in America. Within your area of responsibility, you will collaborate with the property General Manager (GM) to effectively manage and direct aquatics operations and waterpark safety. This role is significant to lead with integrity and coach team members to success as they serve our guests. The AQM will oversee the maintenance of the pools, to include chemistry, climate control, cleanliness, and related maintenance. The AQM will support SMR's promise for guest satisfaction and future hotel stays through leading by example and teaching excellent guest service. Primary Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Managing the Business: The AQM will work 8 to 10+ hours per shift, 5 or 6+ days each week, based on occupancy and staffing demand. Holidays and weekends are affected by peak demand which means all team members must work together during those days to keep the SMR property running efficiently.
- Direct and oversee daily operations including, but not limited to, aquatics, evaluating potential candidates, training, testing, certification of team members, coaching, compliance, rentals, and aquatic common areas.
- AQM will test all candidates prior to the employment offer being made, to ensure they satisfy the prerequisite requirements, for becoming a certified lifeguard through the American Red Cross.
- Knowledge and ability to comply with all Company operating policies and procedures to follow and enforce in compliance with property and applicable lifeguard manuals.
- Compliance with TOSHA certification, biohazards procedures and responsibilities for safety in handling.
- Ensure water health and safety standards are monitored and maintained consistently.
- Manage approved budget guidelines for expenses and labor.
- Ordering and inventory of waterpark related items, and first aid supplies.
- Implement and monitor various waterpark programs when approved.
- Recognize my role is significant to manage team members, impact guest excellence initiatives and repeat visits for future hotel stays, to meet and/or exceed financial objectives for my property and SMR.
- Train and transition to electronic files where applicable to my responsibilities.
- As assigned, develop weekly electronic work schedules for review and approval to manage occupancy.
- Ensure work schedules are in compliance: SMR, State, and FLSA federal guidelines.
- Interact with team members and guests in a positive and friendly manner during all shifts, in all situations.
- To be aware of industry trends and knowledgeable of waterpark risk management, news, safety incidents and updates and equipment/product changes.
- Perform other incidental and related duties as required and/or assigned. The AQM will assume responsibilities of other resort roles when waterparks are non-operational, as assigned by property GM or corporate Director of Operations.
- Management reserves the right to change, remove or add to these duties as necessary.
- Assist in recruiting to evaluate potential candidates, adhering to all Federal and State labor laws, as well as Company policies for employment.
- Address team member issues promptly and professionally in a manner that is consistent with SMR core values.
- Create two-way communication with team members by providing regular feedback and immediate instruction when necessary.
- Conduct annual performance reviews in such a manner that promotes open two-way communication.
- Be a coach for SMR's most valuable resources - its team members.
- Create a positive atmosphere in which team members are willing and able to maximize their potential.
- Recognize performance achievements and celebrate team successes.
- Responsible for team member engagement and resolving workplace conflict.
- No team member will pose a direct threat to the health/safety of self or others.
- Respond to action items and guest related incidents and/or problems promptly and effectively to prevent reoccurrence.
- Maintain and assist to achieve the highest level of cleanliness, maintenance, and care throughout property grounds, pool areas to include aquatic common areas, and back-of-house areas.
- Align with SMR's promise for guest satisfaction and future hotel stays through leading by example and teaching excellent guest service.
- Actively participate in empowering and encouraging team members to have exceptional guest interactions.
- Personally, demonstrate a commitment to SMR standards by responding to management and team members promptly.
- Conduct weekly in-service training to ensure all team members remain proficient with required skills including, but not limited to, shallow water lifeguard training and CPR/AED training.
- Lead and practice 'what if' safety and waterpark scenarios.
- Work with local health department, fire inspector, and other state or local agencies to maintain compliance in waterpark(s).
- Complete required reports and paperwork timely based on deadlines.
- Manage resort services to achieve SMR standards, positive constructive feedback and the cultivation of team member relations.
- High standard of accuracy in all aspects of the job and other project assignments.
- Assist the property GM or designated Manager to successfully deal with performance issues, including the administration of conduct for progressive disciplinary measures up to and including termination.
- Actively participate in SMR's leadership training classes for continuous investment in hospitality and leadership expertise.
- Maintain strict confidentiality and excellent judgment regarding privileged information.
- Ensure my work areas are safe, organized and maintained.

- Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding work environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively and use the English language fluently: speak, understand, read, and write. Adapt Spanish interpretation when necessary.
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention-to-detail (ATD).
- Must be able to prioritize, plan, meet deadlines and practice time management skills daily.
- Ability to accept that conflict happens; act to clarify the issue, bring parties together, identify a solution and monitor for resolution.
- Proficient computer skills with Microsoft software, including Outlook and Excel which is required.
- Digitally savvy with the ability to become knowledgeable, regarding team member training and use of the Purple Cloud system, Paycor system and advanced Property Management system and is required. Software systems may be deleted and/or added with innovations in new technology.
- Ability to monitor and assess guest incidents and property areas which may potentially cause unsafe conditions; requesting assistance when necessary.
- High school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum 3 years' experience working in the operation of a family aquatic center, pool complex, waterpark or related recreation area is required.
- Minimum 2 years' directly supervising 10 or more team members, working in a family aquatic center, pool complex, waterpark or related recreation area is required.
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) is required or the ability to obtain within 30 days from work start date.
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor certification is required and re-certification prior to the date of expiration.
- Aquatic/waterpark experience is required in addition to one or more of the following industries which includes: Hospitality, Resort or Theme Park is required.
- Valid driver's license and ability to be on Company insurance.
- Ability to deal with a diversified workforce.
