Job Coach

Position Summary

The Job Coach supports the mission of the Robert L. Medeiros 290 Rock Street by preparing students for successful transitions to employment, post-secondary education, training programs, military service, and independent adulthood. Through career readiness instruction, work-based learning opportunities, individualized coaching, and community partnerships, the Job Coach helps students develop the academic, employability, and life skills necessary for success beyond high school.

The Job Coach serves as a liaison between the school, students, families, employers, and community organizations to expand career exploration opportunities, secure meaningful employment experiences, and provide ongoing support that promotes student growth, responsibility, and workplace success.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Career Readiness Instruction

• Provide direct instruction in career readiness, employability skills, and workplace expectations.
• Teach resume writing, cover letter development, employment applications, and effective job search strategies.
• Conduct mock interviews and prepare students for successful employment interviews.
• Teach professional workplace behaviors, including communication, teamwork, punctuality, attendance, customer service, conflict resolution, workplace ethics, and appropriate professional attire.
• Assist students in identifying career interests, strengths, and post-secondary goals while developing individualized career plans.

Student Employment and Work-Based Learning

• Assist students in obtaining employment, internships, apprenticeships, volunteer opportunities, job shadow experiences, and other work-based learning experiences.
• Match students with opportunities that align with their interests, abilities, strengths, and career goals.
• Provide individualized coaching and mentoring to support student success before, during, and after placement.
• Conduct workplace visits to monitor student progress and maintain communication with employers.
• Assist students in overcoming barriers to employment, including transportation, scheduling, communication, and workplace adjustment.

Employer and Community Partnerships

• Develop and maintain partnerships with local businesses, industries, municipal agencies, nonprofit organizations, and workforce development partners.
• Recruit employers willing to provide employment and career exploration opportunities for RPA students.
• Serve as the primary liaison between employers and the school regarding student work experiences.
• Coordinate career fairs, guest speakers, hiring events, and other career exploration activities.

Collaboration

• Collaborate with administrators, counselors, teachers, adjustment counselors, special education staff, and community agencies to support student success.
• Participate in student support meetings, transition planning, and multidisciplinary team meetings.
• Maintain regular communication with families regarding student progress and employment opportunities.

Program Management

• Maintain accurate records of student participation, employer contacts, work-based learning placements, workplace visits, and student progress.
• Collect and analyze program data related to employment outcomes and career readiness activities.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with district policies and state and federal regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred; Associate's degree with relevant experience may be considered.
• Experience working with adolescents, workforce development, career counseling, secondary education, youth development, human resources, or related fields preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to establish positive relationships with students, employers, families, and community partners.
• Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with school personnel and outside agencies.
• Valid Massachusetts Driver's License and reliable transportation preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of career readiness, workforce development, and post-secondary transition planning.
• Ability to motivate and support students with diverse academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs.
• Ability to develop and sustain strong employer and community partnerships.
• Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
• Proficiency with Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, and student information systems.

Terms of Employment

Full Time Position

Salary Range: $40,000-$60,000

Pilot program for Job Coach will be evaluated at the end of the 2027 school year.
