Medical Imaging Technologist Assistant-Center for Orthopedic Care Job Title: Medical Imaging Technologist Assistant Department: Center for Orthopedic Care Reports to: Site Manager Revision Date: 1/8/2025 Status: Non-Exempt Job Summary: Primary responsibility is to provide support to the Orthopedic and Medical Imaging healthcare team under the supervision of a licensed Radiologic Technologist to achieve timely and quality patient care. Perform various other clerical and functional tasks to increase the efficiency of the technologist. Interact with other medical imaging and Orthopedic personnel to facilitate patient flow and room patients, as needed. Follow established Medical Imaging requirements and regulations to ensure safe patient care and to ensure safety of all. Duties/Responsibilities: Uses appropriate resources (equipment, ideas, and personnel) in providing individualized customer interaction. Assists in providing an environment conducive to learning for co-workers, students, and ancillary personnel. Demonstrates an ability to perform effectively in emergency situations. Maintains confidentiality in all patient, hospital, and physician related information; demonstrates complete discretion when discussing patient information. Actively participates in in-service programs; attends all mandatory classes as required; completes unit-specific competencies. participates in meetings and committees as assigned. Makes recommendations and suggestions for positive procedure changes, understands and supports the need for change in work, policies, or procedures. Adapts easily and willingly to changes in job responsibilities. Complies with DOH requirements for annual health assessments and required immunizations. Demonstrates supportive and understanding communication and behavior when in contact with guests (patients, visitors, clients, physicians, employees, volunteers, etc.), always displaying positive guest relations. Functionality Transfers patients to and from Medical imaging as needed. Room patients, as needed. Positions patients comfortably for examinations. Assists technologists with X-ray exams. Maintains records of examination data and other pertinent information on patients. Performs specific clerical functions of Radiology, i.e.: order entry, data input for the RIS and PACS, answering phones, etc. Complies with established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, and safety, environmental, and infection control standards. Gathers and disposes of trash and waste materials, removes waste and soiled linens from the work area, after placing in appropriate bags or containers, Cleans room and tables using appropriate tools and cleaning solutions. Assists with the care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Ensures an adequate stock of supplies and proper functioning of equipment Participates in educational programs and attends meetings as required. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient ranging from newborn to geriatric, Provides and gives cooperative and courteous service to staff members, visitors and patients in a timely manner. Maintains patient and hospital confidentiality and follows the hospitals guest relations policies. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested. Documentation Demonstrates competency in maintenance and use of logbooks, forms and computer programs required in the operation of the unit. uses computer programs, including order entry, per polity and procedure as assigned. Documents patient requisitions per policy and procedure regarding patient education, shielding, pregnancy and signature (initials). Accurately, clearly and concisely records all pertinent information on the patient's medical record, according to policy and procedures. Utilizing a two patient identifier, staffs routinely are able to accurately place an order for a procedure and/or associated non-procedure charges and complete the process. Documents are scanned and associated to the proper patient and procedure into PACS. Communication to the radiologist utilizing PACS/Order entry system is followed per policies and procedures. Checks and monitors that studies are flowing from the modality to the PACS and/or teleradiology appropriately. Uses the appropriate chain of command in notifying of patient related errors associated with image management, in a timely manner. Staff utilizing a two patient identifier, assure modality and order entry work list are accurate prior to performing a procedure. Able to utilize down-time procedures to assure limited disruption of patient care, yet maintaining accuracy of Assists other departments as necessary in viewing images, orders and reports in PACS and Order Entry as needed. Able to communicate issues with PACS/order entry system, accurately, to Help Desk/PACS administrator/Vendor to assist in facilitating resolution. Maintains a HIPPA compliant work area, does not share passwords/logins, and maintains patient confidentiality Attends PACS/RIS/OE meetings/trainings as required and follows updated policies and procedures. Able to process images through CD burning, film processing or other forms of image archival. Familiar with Order Entry, Scheduling and PACS Electronic Medical Record (EMR) functions. Equipment Demonstrates ability to use and troubleshoot computer and computer programs. Demonstrates ability to use telephone and fax machines. Safety Demonstrates knowledge of electrical safety Demonstrates complete knowledge of safety policies and procedures Participates in hospital emergency and disaster drills; knows role in event of a fire while on duty. Accurately identifies all information before filing, collating, or reporting data. Maintains a safe environment for staff and visitors. Utilizes techniques of body mechanics for personal safety. Communication: Demonstrates ability to work effectively and communicate frequently with all members of the health care team. Acts as a resource person for clinical and administrative problem when appropriate. Handles telephone information with courtesy, accuracy, and respect for confidentiality; receives information and distributes messages appropriately. Consistently communicates appropriately with patients; speaks respectfully and responds to patients' needs or requests for assistance promptly. Provides accurate communication in verbal, non-verbal, and written form. Listens effectively. Consistently communicates appropriately and cooperates with Information Services, Admissions, and other Oswego Hospital personnel to assure acute flow of digital Information throughout the organization. Identifies and appropriately uses chain of command to resolve department, staff and patient problems. Working Under Pressure — Ability to complete assigned tasks under stressful situations. Assist in the maintenance of the communication with the Radiologist computer systems. Demonstrates ability to communicate effectively via telephone and e-mail. Education and Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. Certification and Licensure: Knowledge of Medical Imaging workflow. Working Conditions: Environmentally controlled medical office environment Fast paced environment with occasional high pressure or emergent situations Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer; subject to intermittent interruptions. Ability to perform prolonged or extensive standing, walking, and/or traversing. Possible exposure to bodily fluids, infectious specimens, communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medicinal preparations and other conditions common to a medical environment Pay Range: $16.17-$17/hour Employee salary is based on commensurate experience and other qualifications.
