No criminal convictions for misdemeanors related to certification, perjury, or felony punishable by at least 1 year imprisonment, nor dishonorable discharge. Submit valid fingerprint card and processing fee. Good moral character as determined by investigation. Good physical condition as per medical examination, may include NFPA 1582. Non-user of tobacco for at least one year before application with affidavit. Valid driver license (required for all positions in this class). Must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver License with tanker endorsement within 6 months of appointment. Additional Requirements Certificate of Compliance as Firefighter (satisfactory completion of approved firefighter training program). No permanent status until certificate received. Must live within 30 miles of headquarters at 7050 Hwy 189 N, Baker, FL. Occasional to moderate travel; respond to emergencies, disasters, travel as needed. Post Employment Requirements Reasonable suspicion, post-accident, and random drug and alcohol testing as per federal regulations. Annual medical examination (pulmonary function and blood pressure). Job Duties This position involves forest fire prevention, detection, suppression, and presuppression, providing technical forestry services and information to landowners and wood‑using industry representatives, assisting with state lands management, and presenting forestry educational programs. Operate and maintain various equipment in wildfire suppression, including truck‑tractor/semi‑trailer or truck and trailer combinations, engines, bulldozers, transit, and other suppression gear. Investigate wildfire causes, gather evidence, interview witnesses, make recommendations, issue notifications of violations. Perform fire detection via ground patrol or tower staffing; investigate smoke complaints and conduct inspections of burn authorizations. Intensify public awareness through prevention programs, wildfire hazard mitigation, and Incident Command System participation. Provide presuppression plowing and burning assistance to private landowners. Assist with timber inventory, tree seed collection, lifting and planting of seedlings, forestry and environmental education programs. Support public lands management activities: tree planting, timber marking, prescribed burning, boundary maintenance, protecting threatened species, wildfire protection. Monitor public use, assist public with recreation on state lands, maintain public facilities (trails, roads, campgrounds, etc.). Operate and maintain equipment for land management: road graders, dump trucks, loaders. Perform maintenance and construction on fixed facilities and equipment; purchase needed materials.
