About the Position

Job Opportunity – Pediatric PACU Registered Nurse – Wisconsin

Start Date: November 9, 2026

Location: Madison, Wisconsin

Compensation: Details provided to qualified applicants

Schedule: Evening/Night shifts with 8, 10, or 12-hour options. Shift times range from 7:00 PM to 7:30 AM or 11:00 PM to 7:30 AM with flexibility. Monday through Friday OR Sunday through Thursday schedules available with no on-call requirements.

Contract Length: 13-17 weeks

Highlights:

• Provide independent peri-anesthetic management for complex pediatric surgical and procedural patients in a Level One Pediatric Trauma Center
• Work with a comprehensive range of pediatric cases across all age groups including neonates, infants, children, adolescents, and adults
• Phase I and Phase II PACU experience with varied surgical specialties including neuro, ortho, ENT, general surgery, and more
• Epic electronic medical records system with 24 hours of orientation provided
• Interdisciplinary support including IV teams, respiratory services, pharmacy, rapid response teams, and radiology
• Daily census of approximately 25 patients in a state-of-the-art, Magnet-designated pediatric facility

Requirements:

• Minimum 2 years of recent pediatric PACU experience required
• Active Wisconsin RN license or compact license (pending Wisconsin license accepted with submission)
• Epic charting system experience required
• Current BLS and PALS certifications (American Heart Association only)
• Previous travel experience required; charge experience preferred
• Level I Trauma Center experience required
• Must successfully pass telemetry competency examination prior to starting assignment
• Must reside at least 50 miles from the facility
• Flu vaccination required (medical/religious exemptions only); COVID-19 vaccination not required

Telemetry Testing Requirements:

Candidates must pass a telemetry competency exam with the following criteria:

• Adult Exam: 100% identification of lethal rhythms (V-fib, V-tach, asystole), zero incorrect answers on 3rd-degree heart blocks, and 80% overall passing score
• Pediatric Exam: Accurate identification of V-fib, V-tach, asystole, and sinus bradycardia with 80% overall passing score
• Two attempts permitted; completion of cardiac interpretation review course required before third attempt if needed

Clinical Skills:

Experience with the following is expected: airway assessment and management, arterial line management, blood product administration, central line care, chest tube management, dysrhythmia recognition, ventilated patient care, IV vasopressors, pain management, PCA pumps, IV placement and maintenance, end-tidal CO2 monitoring, port access and management, extubation procedures, malignant hyperthermia protocol, and pediatric patient management across multiple surgical specialties.
