Group Exercise Instructor

The Group Fitness Instructor is responsible for leading safe, effective, and engaging group fitness classes for YMCA members of varying fitness levels. Instructors create a welcoming environment that promotes health and wellness, encourages member retention, and reflects the core values of the YMCA: caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.

• Plan and lead group fitness classes following YMCA guidelines and safety protocols.
• Provide modifications and progressions to accommodate all fitness levels.
• Arrive on time, prepared, and maintain a clean and professional appearance.
• Build relationships with participants to encourage class attendance and healthy lifestyles.
• Ensure the fitness studio or exercise area is clean, organized, and equipment is used properly.
• Respond to emergencies according to YMCA procedures.
• Record class attendance as required.
• Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and continuing education as needed.
• Uphold YMCA policies, mission, and core values.

• Current Group Fitness Instructor certification (e.g., ACE, AFAA, NASM, ACSM, or YMCA Foundations of Group Exercise).
• CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willing to obtain within 30 days of hire).
• Previous experience teaching group fitness classes preferred.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire individuals in a group setting.
• Ability to lead physical fitness activities for extended periods.
• Ability to perform all physical aspects of the position, including leading class, walking, standing, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 30 lbs.
