About This Job62/MEO1H1/9223/09.11.26NMUnit 530 - Greensburg, LouisianaThe overall function of this position is to operate a variety of heavy equipment for the purposes of road and bridge maintenance/construction. This Position is located in District 62, Livingston Parish, Unit 530 (Greensburg Maintenance Unit), of the Department of Transportation & Development and reports directly to the Highway Foreman 1. The incumbent must be self-motivated and be able to perform duties many times with or without minimal supervision as well as to interpret unforeseen conditions as they may arise. The incumbent will participate in appropriate DOTD structured training programs as appropriate and attend all continuing education classes and conferences deemed necessary to facilitate the performance of required tasks. While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Service laws, rules, and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. This is an outdoor, physically active role that may involve varying weather conditions, shift work, night work, overtime, travel, or emergency call-outs depending on assignment.Minimum QualificationsNo experience or training is required.Job SpecificationThe official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties and Other InformationJob Duties:Depending on assignment and experience level, Mobile Equipment Operators may:Operate heavy and specialized equipment used in road and bridge maintenanceAssist with construction, repair, and upkeep of highways and bridgesPerform routine equipment inspections and basic preventative maintenanceSupport traffic control, cleanup, and emergency response activitiesWork outdoors in varying weather conditionsPerform physical tasks such as lifting, loading materials, and using hand and power toolsAssist or guide lower-level operators as neededThis role requires reliability, safety awareness, and the ability to adapt to changing work conditions.Position-Specific Details: Compensation: MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1: Class D, Chauffeur's License will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO 1 is $16.06 /hour; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00 /hour for every hour worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status. MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 2: Class A, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO 2 is $17.18 /hour; this job title receives Premium Pay in the amount of $1.00 /hour for every hour worked. Additionally, a 10% base pay increase will be granted upon attainment of permanent status. MOBILE EQUIPMENT OPERATOR 1/HEAVY: Class A, Commercial Driver's License (CDL) will be required upon appointment. The starting salary for MEO 1/Heavy will be $21.05 /hour.Additional compensation may be considered impart with extraordinary qualifications in accordance with State Civil Service Rules and DOTD policy.Please list all work experience on your application. Career Progression: This position may be filled as Mobile Equipment Operator 1, Mobile Equipment Operator 2, or Mobile Equipment Operator 1-Heavy, based on qualifications and agency needs. Licensing Requirements: Certain levels may require a valid Louisiana Class "D" Chauffeur's License or CDL prior to permanent appointment or start date, depending on assignment. Appointment Type: This position may be filled as either a probational appointment (open to all qualified applicants); a promotion (open to all statewide classified and Agency-wide permanent status employees); or by detail to special duty.
