The Accessioning Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the accessioning desk in Dermatopathology. Accessioning includes the receipt of 400 to 650 specimens daily. All specimens are reconciled and entered into the laboratory information system. The accessioning team consists of 3 Dermpath Technical Lab Assistants that report directly to the Accessioning Supervisor. The supervisor is responsible for all logistical coordination of staffing, customer relationship management, root cause analysis of operational issues that need to be addressed and resolved, and reporting of associated issues and resolutions to staff and managers.

Responsibilities:

• Supervision of 3 direct reports including training and evaluation of performance.
• Annual updates to Standard Operating Procedures and assurance of compliance to procedures.
• Oversight of logistics of accessioning of 400 to 650 specimens daily including resolution of problematic cases which include mislabeled specimens, missing insurance information, inaccurate patient demographic information, missing specimens during reconciliation.
• Coordination of consultation cases, receiving and matching materials from various locations and completion of complex consultation accessioning.
• Addressing physician requests, concerns and pickups and send backs.
• Inventory management of supplies needed at the accessioning desk as well as supplies needed for referring physician offices including various requisition forms, specimen bottles, biohazard bags and FedEx supplies.
• Trouble shooting of lab equipment at the accessioning desk including printer/scanner, computer equipment, zebra printers and laboratory cassette printers.
• Creation of service requests for equipment and facility issues.
• Involved in workflow design and information systems testing of computer applications.
• Responsible for TJC regulatory compliance pertaining to the receipt and accessioning of specimens.

Education or Equivalent Experience:

• H.S. Diploma/GED (Required)
• 5+ years Laboratory experience including complex troubleshooting
• 3+ years Laboratory information systems.
