Job Description

The Electrical Service Technician is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, and testing electrical systems and equipment at residential, commercial, and/or industrial customer locations. This role requires strong technical knowledge, excellent customer service skills, and the ability to work independently while ensuring compliance with all electrical codes and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnoses, troubleshoot, and repair electrical systems, components, and equipment.
• Install, maintain, and upgrade electrical wiring, fixtures, panels, motors, controls, and related equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance inspections and recommend necessary repairs.
• Read and interpret electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
• Test electrical systems using appropriate diagnostic tools and equipment.
• Ensure all work complies with applicable electrical codes, company standards, and safety regulations.
• Communicate findings and repair recommendations to customers in a professional manner.
• Complete service reports, work orders, and documentation accurately and on time.
• Maintain service vehicle, tools, and equipment in good working condition.
• Respond to emergency service calls as required.
• Work collaboratively with team members and other departments to complete projects efficiently.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Completion of an accredited electrical apprenticeship or equivalent experience.
• Journeyman Electrician license preferred (or as required by state/local regulations).
• Minimum of 2–5 years of electrical service experience preferred.
• Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
• Strong understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC) and electrical safety practices.
• Ability to read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
• Proficient in the use of electrical testing and diagnostic equipment.
• Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and customer service abilities.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
• Frequently stand, kneel, bend, climb ladders, and work in confined spaces.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
• Manual dexterity to safely use hand and power tools.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with generators, motor controls, VFDs, PLCs, or HVAC electrical systems.
• Knowledge of low-voltage systems, lighting controls, and backup power systems.
• Strong organizational and time management skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
