The purpose of this position is to protect and serve the property and citizens of the City. This is accomplished by maintaining the Police records system. Other duties may include preparing reports, providing customer service and interfacing with other City employees and citizens. This position does not provide direction to other employees.

Essential Job Functions

The following duties ARE NOT intended to serve as a comprehensive list of all duties performed by all employees in this classification, only a representative summary of the primary duties and responsibilities. Incumbent(s) may not be required to perform all duties listed and may be required to perform additional, position-specific duties.

  • Maintains Police record system by entering data, including criminal records, arrest reports, incident reports, field interview cards and accident reports into the Police record system and by registering sex offenders, including DPS paperwork and notification of schools, newspapers and other relevant agencies as appropriate.
  • Prepares reports by disseminating reports to proper divisions and departments, making copies for newspapers and front board and making copies of accident reports to be sent to Austin.
  • Provides customer service by answering questions regarding criteria for open records requests, accident report requests and criminal history checks, searching for requested information and communicating with City attorneys for information.
Job Requirements

Education & Experience

Work requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with no prior relevant work experience.

Certification and Other Requirements

  • Valid Texas Class C Driver's License
  • Clear criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen

Physical Demands and Work Environment Sedentary - Exerting up to 10 lbs. occasionally or negligible weights frequently; sitting most of the time.

Hours/Work Schedule

This is a full-time non-exempt position with benefits.

Ineligibility Criteria

  • Non-U.S. Citizenship
  • Class B Misdemeanor Convictions or Admissions
  • Felony or Class A Misdemeanor Convictions or Admissions
  • DWI/DUI Convictions
  • Court-Ordered Community Supervision or Probation
  • English Language Proficiency
  • Inability to Perform Essential Job Functions
  • Failure to Obtain a Texas Driver's License

Disqualifying Criteria

  • Illegal Drug Use and Substance Abuse
  • Driving Record
  • Employment Dismissal or Misconduct

Tattoo Policy:

Tattoos may be visible on the arms, but each must be approved prior to wearing short sleeves while in uniform. Tattoos that are not approved must be covered with long sleeves; the use of bandages, covers, or wraps to conceal tattoos is not permitted. Tattoos are not allowed on the hands, neck, face, or head.
