Locum MD (Medical Doctor) General Surgery

Description

 This on-site, contract position is ideal for an Associate-level physician who is ready to deliver high-quality surgical care in a collaborative and mission-driven healthcare environment.

As a Locum General Surgery MD, you will play an essential role in providing comprehensive surgical services, supporting patient-centered care, and collaborating closely with clinical teams to achieve positive patient outcomes. This position offers meaningful work within the Medical Practice industry, with a focus on clinical excellence, safety, and continuity of care.

Responsibilities

• Perform comprehensive general surgery consultations and patient evaluations
• Conduct surgical procedures within the scope of practice and privileges
• Develop and implement preoperative and postoperative care plans
• Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and multidisciplinary care teams
• Document patient assessments, procedures, and outcomes accurately
• Provide timely follow-up care and manage surgical complications
• Participate in on-call coverage and emergency surgical consultations as needed
• Educate patients and families on surgical procedures, risks, and recovery
• Ensure compliance with medical practice standards, protocols, and regulations
• Contribute to quality improvement initiatives and patient safety programs
• Coordinate with referring physicians to ensure continuity of care
• Stay current with advances in general surgery and evidence-based practices

Requirements

• Associate-level experience in General Surgery
• Medical degree from an accredited institution
• Board certification or eligibility in General Surgery preferred
• Strong clinical judgment, diagnostic, and decision-making skills
• Ability to perform general surgical procedures safely and effectively
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
• Commitment to patient-centered, compassionate care
• Strong documentation, organizational, and time-management skills
• Familiarity with electronic medical records and surgical documentation standards
• Ability to work on-site in Chinle and adapt to a contract schedule
• Dedication to continuous professional development and clinical excellence

Schedule: Monday-Friday, 7a-3:30p or 8a-5p with call

Daily Volume: 2-8 procedures

Common Cases: Colonoscopy/EGD, laparoscopic cholecystectomy, laparoscopic appendectomy, lumps/bumps, and infections 

Must be able to perform scopes
