About this Role NorthStar Energy Services is seeking an Instrumentation & Electrical (I&E) Engineer / Project Engineer to join our collaborative multidisciplinary team. This dual-role position combines hands-on electrical and instrumentation engineering with project-level technical leadership, providing the opportunity to contribute from early design through construction, commissioning, and startup. What You'll Do In this role, you will develop electrical and instrumentation deliverables for energy facilities, including design concepts, engineering criteria, equipment and instrument specifications, and code interpretations. As Project Engineer, you will also help define scope, schedule, and budget; coordinate procurement and vendor activities; and serve as a key technical connection among clients, internal disciplines, and third-party partners throughout the project lifecycle, including construction and field implementation.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:ELECTRICAL ENGINEERINGPerform engineering analyses, calculations, and design activities for a broad range of electrical deliverables, including:Area Classification StudiesArc Flash/Short Circuit StudiesProtective Relay Coordination StudiesLarge Motor Starting StudiesElectrical System Modeling utilizing ETAPInterconnect Wiring DiagramsElectrical Power Distribution and Control Equipment SizingVoltage Drop CalculationsMotor Control SchematicsApplication of Variable Frequency Drives (VFD)One-Line DiagramsConduit/Cable SchedulesConduit DesignPoint-to-Point Wiring DiagramsLighting DesignEquipment Grounding DesignElectrical Equipment SpecificationsElectrical Load AnalysisINSTRUMENTATION & CONTROLS ENGINEERINGIndependently develop instrumentation and controls engineering deliverables, including:Instrument Index and Instrument Datasheets/SpecificationsInstrument Loop Diagrams (ILDs)Instrument Installation Details (process and electrical hook-ups)Instrument Location and Cable/Conduit Routing PlansControl System I/O Lists and Panel Layout DrawingsControl Narratives and Cause & Effect DiagramsFlow Measurement and Custody Transfer Metering Design (gas and liquid)Fire & Gas Detection System DesignInstrument Selection for Hazardous (Classified) LocationsCommunication Network Design (fiber, Ethernet, serial, wireless)Provide independent technical review of project PFDs and P&IDs, with particular attention to instrumentation tagging and control philosophyPROJECT ENGINEERING & DELIVERABLE MANAGEMENTServe as Project Engineer for assigned projects, with responsibility for scope, schedule, budget, and coordinated technical execution across engineering disciplinesCoordinate multidisciplinary deliverables and serve as the primary day-to-day technical point of contact for the clientDevelop and maintain core project documentation, including design basis documents, scopes of work, deliverable lists, and progress reportsSupport procurement through RFQs, technical bid evaluations, and purchase recommendations for electrical and instrumentation equipment;
