Rippling is scaling at hyper speed, and we're hiring a Director of Accounting to own the financial close and reporting processes to drive efficiency and help tell our story. You will set ambitious targets, unlock new improvement opportunities, build a best in class financial close and reporting process, and partner closely with the Chief Accounting Officer, Controller and cross-functional partners to execute on Rippling's most important priorities.

This is a highly strategic role: Rippling is a complex, fast-moving, multi-product company, and we need someone who can be a critical thought partner to the Chief Accounting Officer, Controller, and product teams in providing insights for future product features, driving execution, and navigating ambiguous business problems. Your work will directly influence how we scale an exceptional business and will have significant executive and cross-functional visibility.

Responsibilities

• Lead the U.S.-based Accounting functions with the ability to define and implement an effective controllership framework;
• Own the monthly, quarterly, and year end close processes maximizing the efficient use of resources to ensure timely and accurate results;
• Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting team, building and maintaining a culture of high performance and accountability;
• Lead the year end audit and serve as the POC for the external audit team;
• Strengthen global accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and governance structures ensuring adherence to financial procedures, carrying out regular reviews to ensure they remain effective;
• Partner with the Controller on technical accounting areas such as revenue recognition, internally developed capitalized software, and stock-based compensation;
• Contribute towards the financial strategy, opportunities and growth of Rippling;
• Own and manage financial processes and ensure all systems and controls are fit for purpose as the company evolves and grows in line with Rippling strategic objectives;
• Provide support and recommendations to Rippling product and engineering teams, together with other senior stakeholders;
• Keep Rippling Controller, CAO and CFO informed of all key financial reporting, activities and financial risks to the business;
• Support global treasury operations as Rippling expands its products and presence internationally;
• Support global tax operations as Rippling expands its international footprint.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field required;
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) designation;
• 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including established credibility as a trusted advisor to business partners and senior leadership on complex technical matters. Prior Big 4 experience is highly preferred;
• Prior experience in fintech, financial services, or a regulated industry is preferred, particularly within a high-growth environment;
• Startup mindset - comfortable and have experience functioning in a fast-paced, high growth environment with ambiguity and changing priorities. Must be able to pivot quickly/easily;
• Internal Controls - strong knowledge and experience in designing, implementing and operating internal controls with prior SOX experience strongly preferred;
• Strong technical accounting expertise with solid understanding of U.S. GAAP;
• Proven ability to drive process improvements and optimize accounting operations;
• Highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to work independently and also collaborate with cross-functional teams; comfortable rolling up sleeves and directly executing work as a preparer as needed;
• Strong problem-solving skills, including ability to proactively identify and prevent potential problems, and collaborate with others to resolve effectively;
• Ability to work well under pressure and appropriately prioritize responsibilities. Demonstrate strong leadership/mentorship across the Accounting team;
• Proven track record of effective communication at all levels of the organization, with a high level of self-awareness and humility, and excellent collaboration skills.
