Substitute Library Assistant

Hours Per Day: 7.5 hours per day Salary: $11.35 per hour Position Purpose: In the absence of the Library Assistant, operates the library media center and creates a functional inviting atmosphere for student learning, and assists with daily building technology operations. Essential Job Functions: Maintains the operation of the circulation desk (e.g., checking out/receiving materials, processing overdue returns, etc.) Provides support to enhance staff and student access to resource materials and equipment. Keeps materials properly organized. Assists building staff members with technology issues (printer maintenance, classroom PC's, labs, interactive white board technology, technology integration, web page development, etc.) as time permits. Assists staff and students with scheduling and using materials and equipment. Collects and reserves material for classroom assignments. Prepares bulletin boards, displays, and/or material lists to introduce new library/media resources to students and staff. Communicates high expectations and shows an active interest in student progress. Helps supervise volunteer helpers. Reports evidence of suspected child abuse as required by law. Supports an inclusive educational environment. Communicates with the public library staff members. Takes precautions to ensure student safety. Does not leave students unsupervised. Accepts responsibility for personal decisions and conduct. Strives to develop rapport and serve as a positive role model for others. Performs other specific job-related duties as directed. Maintains high standards and upholds the student conduct code. Promotes a favorable image of the school district. Upholds board policies and follows administrative procedures. Equipment: Use of standard office equipment, such as personal computers and copiers. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form. Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel). Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals. Ability to maintain confidentiality of information regarding students, employees and others. Ability to establish a supportive and compassionate relationship with students. Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work. Ability to report work orally or in writing to supervisor as required. Effective writing and verbal communication skills. Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards: Works in standard office and school building environments. Potential for interactions with disruptive, unruly and/or menacing individuals. Duties may require prolonged use of a computer keyboard and monitor. Duties may require working under time constraints to meet deadlines. Qualifications Profile: Any combination of education and experience providing the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying. Typical qualifications would be equivalent to: High School diploma or equivalent Educational Aide Permit issued by the Ohio Department of Education FLSA Status: Non-exempt
