Position Overview Austin Water's Talent Apprenticeship Program (TAP) is a six‑week paid apprenticeship offering real‑world training and career development in the water industry. The program is designed for graduating seniors and recent graduates who are not pursuing higher education and want to build a sustainable career in public service. Job Responsibilities Assist with general administrative functions under general supervision. Coordinate, administer, or monitor specific programs as needed. Collect and organize data for research and perform analyses for reports. Participate in problem‑solving activities and recommend solutions. Support special projects and learn about municipal government operations. Qualifications Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent. Enrollment in the first year of an associate degree program or vocational/technical school. Knowledge of Federal, State, and local laws, ordinances, and city practices. Skill in oral and written communication and computer applications. Ability to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, gather information, and maintain working relationships. Valid current Texas Class “C” driver license or ability to obtain one by hire date. Driver safety standard requirement: no more than three moving violations or six driver record points within 36 months. Physical and Safety Requirements Carry or lift up to 50 lbs.; push or pull up to 50 lbs.; perform tasks such as sitting, standing, walking, climbing stairs and ladders, reaching overhead, kneeling, crawling, stooping/bending, twisting, and repetitive movements. Use personal protective equipment, including self‑contained breathing apparatus, if required. Work in confined spaces, underground electrical and other hazardous areas, and heights up to 200 feet with required harnesses. Pass a pre‑employment physical exam and functional strength/agility test.
