Jerome L. Taylor Trucking, Inc. is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Yard Maintenance Technician to maintain the cleanliness, safety, organization, and general condition of company yards, grounds, facilities, and designated work areas. This position performs routine upkeep and minor maintenance tasks and assists the Fleet Maintenance Department as needed to support vehicle availability, shop organization, and efficient daily operations. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities  

• Maintain the cleanliness, safety, and professional appearance of the transportation yard, parking areas, maintenance shop, storage areas, and company grounds. 
• Collect and properly dispose of trash, debris, scrap materials, and other items from assigned work areas. 
• Sweep, wash, pressure clean, and perform routine housekeeping in yard, shop, and facility areas. 
• Mow grass, trim vegetation, remove weeds, and complete seasonal groundskeeping duties. 
• Assist with snow removal, ice treatment, storm preparation, and weather-related site cleanup as assigned. 
• Inspect assigned areas for hazards, property damage, lighting concerns, drainage issues, damaged fencing or signage, and other maintenance needs; report concerns promptly. 
• Perform minor repairs, painting, assembly, and general facility upkeep within training and authorization. 
• Organize tools, supplies, parts, equipment, containers, and designated storage areas. 
• Assist the Fleet Maintenance Department as needed with shop cleanup, parts and supply movement, equipment organization, preventive-maintenance support tasks, and other non-technical duties within the employee’s training and authorization. 
• Help stage vehicles or equipment for service when directed and authorized; do not operate or repair equipment without required training, licensing, and approval. 
• Promptly report damaged, defective, or unsafe tools, equipment, machines, or vehicles to the appropriate supervisor. 
• Use company property and equipment responsibly and follow all operating instructions, safety standards, and established procedures. 
• Communicate effectively with Operations, Fleet Maintenance, drivers, supervisors, vendors, and other employees. 
• Report to work on time, remain available for assigned duties, and complete work accurately and efficiently. 
• Perform other related duties as assigned. 

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications  

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 
• Prior experience in yard maintenance, facilities maintenance, groundskeeping, landscaping, construction, fleet support, or a related field preferred. 
• Valid driver’s license preferred; a satisfactory driving record may be required when operating company vehicles is assigned. 
• Ability to safely use common hand tools, power tools, lawn equipment, cleaning equipment, and other assigned maintenance equipment. 
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to assist Fleet Maintenance personnel with authorized support tasks. 
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and observe posted safety information. 
• Strong attention to detail, sound judgment, and the ability to recognize and report unsafe conditions. 
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize assignments, and respond to changing operational needs. 
• Consistent punctuality, dependability, and reliable attendance are essential requirements of the position. 

Physical and Work Environment Requirements  

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, climb, reach, push, pull, and perform repetitive physical activity throughout the workday. 
• Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds independently and heavier items with assistance or approved material-handling equipment. 
• Ability to work outdoors and in shop environments during heat, cold, rain, snow, wind, and other changing weather conditions. 
• Work may involve moving vehicles and equipment, noise, dust, dirt, odors, diesel exhaust, chemicals, uneven surfaces, and other conditions common to transportation and fleet-maintenance operations. 
• Required personal protective equipment must be worn as directed.
